Ashland Preschool Weekly Update

Hi Everyone-

THANK YOU to all who donated to our Holiday Community Service Project! Donna delivered all of the donations to the community center and they were very appreciative of our efforts! Thanks for continuing to support the Pittaway and the greater Ashland community!

Here at the preschool we follow the Houghton Mifflin curriculum which consists of 10 themes which is used to guide our activities and instruction. Each of these themes is three weeks long. Embedded into our Houghton Mifflin curriculum are math, science, and social studies activities. The social emotional curriculum that our school uses is called Second Step. Second Step is a program that teaches students to identify their feelings, regulate their emotions, solve problems, and socialize with their peers. Finally, our ELA program consists of two parts: Heggerty and Fundations. Where Heggerty focuses on teaching students phonological awareness, such as isolating final and ending sounds, segmenting words into syllables, and language awareness; Fundations focuses on learning a new letter of the alphabet each week. With Fundations we learn what the letter is, what sound the letter makes, and how to write the letter.

Please remember to email your child's teacher and office if they are going to be absent (sick, traveling, appointments, etc).

-Arrival Times- 8:30- 8:45am (If you are late or notice the gate closed; please pull around to the front door and buzz in)

-Dismissal Times-2:45-2:55pm

-Students need to remain buckled in, until they enter the loading zone.

-No Cell Phones

-Turn your cars off

-Walk your children all the way to the fence

-Do not pull out of the loading zone unless specifically directed by a staff member.

It's time to change over your child's extra clothes! Please send in a set of extra clothes for the winter months (long sleeves, pants, extra socks, underwear, etc.). Teachers will swap out the shorts and t-shirts in their cubbies and send them home in backpacks!

Nurse Kerrin is always looking for extra clothes for the Health Office, specifically pants right now!

Don’t forget to visit ashland.k12.ma.us/Flyers where we feature announcements and events offered by organizations, clubs and teams throughout our community that serve to enrich the lives of our students, families, faculty and staff. The board will be updated every Friday, so check back frequently!
