School Supply Lists School Supply Lists

The school district provides pencils, paper, crayons, scissors, glue and all necessary supplies for students along with all textbooks, weekly magazines and science supplies so it is not necessary for you to provide school supply items. However, we know that many of our students (and their parents!) enjoy purchasing new school supplies so we have compiled the following suggested lists.

Important message re School Lunch and Breakfast program Important message re School Lunch and Breakfast program

zoom_out_map

At this time, the District is under the impression that funding will remain in order to continue the Community Eligibility Provision, the program that allows schools to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students regardless of income status.

That being said, we are asking parents to take a moment to complete the Education Benefits Form, which collects information needed to ensure the school receives state and federal funding for education programs. Without this information, Davison Community Schools could lose important funding for education programs that our students need. These supplemental grants and programs have the potential to offer supports and services for our students including, but not limited to:

● Instructional staff (ex. Reading Interventionists, Math Tutors, Academic & Behavior Aids)

● Teaching supplies and materials

● Counselors and Social Workers

● School Nurses

● Professional Learning for staff

● Parent and Community engagement supplies and activities

● Technology

You can apply by downloading the form or completing it online at: https://davison.familyportal.cloud/benefits/onlyapplying

Why is Davison Community Schools requesting financial information?
The Education Benefits Form determines eligibility of a student or household. The total count of eligible students is used to determine the funding amounts that will be made available to a school. The more forms returned the better.

What do I need to do?
Please complete the attached form and return it to your child’s school or our Food Services Department located in the Cardinal Station, 10183 Lapeer Road.

How will this information be protected?
In keeping with current practices, your information will be kept confidential and will not be shared with any staff other than those who process the applications.

What else might my student or household be eligible for?
Based on the information you provide on your Education Benefits Form, your child may qualify for other programs such as: edit list below based on your school/district programs

● Programs that provide food support

● Programs that provide field trip support

● Programs that provide school supplies or assist with school fees

● Programs that provide holiday support (Cool to Care holiday assistance program)

● Potential household support for cable and internet

You must complete the Sharing Information with Other Programs form, attached below, to grant permission for your eligibility information to be shared.

If you have any questions, please contact Food Services Director Jennifer Lutze at 810-591-0824.

Same faces but in new spaces for 2025-26 School Year

Some familiar faces will have new titles beginning with the 2025-26 school year.

First, Amy Chorley, the District’s Executive Director of Student Services, has been named as Assistant Superintendent. Amy will continue to oversee the Student Services Department, which is responsible for all student concerns including special Education programs and services, Section 504 plans, Child Find, McKinney-Vento services for homeless students, medical/health concerns, ADA needs, homebound services, online programming and all serious discipline concerns.

Next, Amy Renye, who serves as Dean of Students at Hahn Intermediate, has been selected to serve as Assistant Principal at Davison Middle School, effective January 1, 2026. She is replacing Cayla Dowdall who is moving to the principal’s position when current Principal Josie Paquette retires at the end of December.

Gates Elementary Teacher Brielle Bayliss has been selected to serve in the newly-created position of Dean of Students for Gates and Central elementary buildings.

Last but certainly not least, Davison High School Teacher Tim Pizzala will become the Middle School’s next Dean of Students when veteran teacher and Dean of Students Chris Wilson retires at the end of December. His position also becomes effective January 1, 2026.

Prior to becoming the Executive Director, Mrs. Chorley served as the District’s PreK-12 MTSS Behavior Coach. Amy was hired in February 2017 to work with early childhood and kindergarten special education students. Before coming to Davison, Amy was employed by the Genesee Intermediate School District as a Teacher Consultant for Autism Spectrum Disorder.

“As the Executive Director of Student Services, Amy Chorley has demonstrated strong leadership, dedication and devotion to improving the District,” said Superintendent Matt Lobban. “Amy has been working as my right-hand person for two years now, and designating her as the Assistant Superintendent is a no-brainer.”

Mrs. Chorley earned her undergraduate degree in Special Education from Central Michigan University. She holds a master’s degree in Special Education, along with a specialty certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorder, from Oakland University. Additionally, she obtained her Special Education Supervisor Certification from Saginaw Valley State University and her PK-12 Administrator Certificate from the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals.

“I’m truly honored to serve as Assistant Superintendent for Davison Community Schools,” Mrs. Chorley said. “This district holds significant meaning for me, and I’m excited to be part of its continued growth and success. Davison is an incredible community, filled with dedicated staff, and excellent students and families. It’s a privilege to serve in a role that allows me to give back to a place I care so much about. I am grateful for the opportunity.”

Amy is married to Eric, who serves as the K–12 Assessment and Curriculum Coordinator for the district. Together, they have three children. Madeline graduated from Davison High School in 2019, Tyler graduated in 2021, and their youngest, Isabella, is currently a senior at Davison High School.

When she has the opportunity, Amy enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, going up north to the cottage for hiking, and knitting.

Mrs. Renye joined the DCS family in 2012, teaching students with emotional impairments for seven years. She moved into the role of resource room teacher where she continued to support diverse student needs in the general education environment for two years. In 2021, Mrs. Renye became a literacy and then instructional coach before stepping into the role of Dean at Hahn Intermediate in 2023.

“Amy has done a terrific job of building relationships with staff, students and families in her role as Dean of Students,” said Supt. Lobban. “The many experiences and opportunities she has been involved in will serve her well as an assistant principal at DMS, and the relationship-building already began years ago for her when the current DMS students were at Hahn.”

“Amy’s experience as Dean of Students and her genuine passion for supporting students and families make her a perfect fit for the assistant principal role,” said Mrs. Amy Chorley. “She’s a thoughtful leader, a strong communicator, and always puts kids first. Amy has already shown what an incredible administrator she is, and she will be an excellent addition to the DMS team.”

Before coming to Davison, Mrs. Renye worked as a long-term substitute in the Owosso and Swartz Creek school districts, supporting students with special needs at both the elementary and high school levels.

“When I officially started my teaching career in Davison, I quickly realized it was more than just a work place—it was a community where I felt truly at home,” Mrs. Renye said.

Amy earned her bachelor of arts degree in Psychology and Special Education from Grand Valley State University, with endorsements in Emotional and Cognitive Impairments.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve as the next Assistant Principal of Davison Middle School,” Mrs. Renye said. “It is an honor to take on this role, and I look forward to working with a dedicated staff, supportive families and, most importantly, our amazing students. Building strong, positive relationships has always been central to my work, and I’m excited to continue that here. I believe that for students to thrive academically, they need to feel safe, comfortable and supported—this will be my focus as I transition into this new role.”

Amy and her husband, Chris, have three sons: Harson (13), Hudson (12), and Holden (8), all of whom attend Davison Schools. In her spare time, Amy enjoys relaxing with her family at their cottage on Lake St. Clair and cheering on the kids at their many sporting events.

Miss Bayliss' new position began on July 1.

“As we have analyzed behavior and perception data over the past few years it is clear that there is a need for added student behavior and relational support at Central and Gates Elementary,” said Superintendent Lobban. “The role of the Dean will be critical to help attend to this need and Brielle will be a tremendous asset to both schools.”

“Brielle has demonstrated strong leadership, a commitment to students, and the ability to support those around her throughout her time in the district,” said Christine Kuzinski, Director of Human Resources and Operations. “We look forward to all she will bring to this new role and are confident that both schools will benefit greatly from her leadership.”

Central and Gates Elementary schools are the largest elementary buildings in the district with student populations of nearly 575 and 515, respectively.

“I feel incredibly honored and excited to serve as the Dean of Students for both Central and Gates Elementary next year,” Brielle said. “I love the Davison community so much and I am excited that this new role will broaden my ability to build strong relationships with students, families and staff while supporting a safe, positive and inclusive school environment.”

Brielle joined the staff at Gates Elementary five years ago and has taught first, third and fourth grades. Prior to coming to Davison, Brielle taught second grade at Cook Elementary in Grand Blanc.

Brielle said she definitely considers herself a lifelong learner. She has a bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology and Elementary Education from Palm Beach Atlantic University, a master's in Teaching Elementary Education from Liberty University and a Education Specialist Degree in Administration and Leadership K-12 from Liberty University.

In her spare time, Brielle loves to spend time with her 4-year-old yellow lab (Boomer), taking him for walks and taking him to the pool for a swim. She also enjoys playing volleyball, reading books and is extremely passionate about traveling!

Brielle comes from a close-knit family of five. Her parents are living the dream in South Florida. Her older brother, Trey, is a general manager at a country club in Denver, Colorado, where he lives with his wife. Brielle is also a new aunt as her sister, a Grand Blanc eye doctor, and brother-in-law just welcomed baby Bennett just a little over a week ago.

Mr. Pizzala began his career with Davison in 2018, hiring in as a social studies and health teacher at Davison Middle School. A year later, he transferred to the high school where he has since been teaching World History. He has also coached varsity football, JV boys’ and girls’ basketball and softball in the district since 2015.

“As a teacher and coach in the district, Tim is known for his integrity, strong work ethic and exceptional ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and families,” said Mrs. Kuzinski.. “His proven leadership and dedication to fostering a supportive environment make him an ideal fit for his new role at DMS.”

Prior to coming to Davison, Tim taught social studies at Brandon High School, where he also coached football and basketball, served as the Student Leadership Advisor and department chair.

"I'm incredibly honored to step into the role of Dean of Students at Davison Middle School,” Mr. Pizzala said. “As a lifelong educator and proud member of the Davison community, becoming the Dean of Students at DMS feels like a natural and exciting next step. I’m looking forward to building strong relationships with students, staff and families as we work together to foster a positive school environment. I can’t wait to get started!"

Mr. Pizzala graduated from Grand Valley State University with a bachelor's degree in Social Studies and Psychology. He earned his master’s degree in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College.

Tim is married to Heather and they have two children, Payton and Brooke. Payton graduated from DHS in 2021 and Brooke graduated this year.

Tim loves the outdoors, traveling, hunting and watching sports.
