ABCYa

This is the powerhouse of kids games, on all subjects. However, it is being throttled by its reliance on Adobe Flash Player, which means many games will not play on chromebooks. It also has a 2 tiered system where some games require logins and some are for free.

Splash Learn

SplashLearn wants every child to have their own login and personalized path. This is really slick game based learning. Overview video here.

Cool Math Games

This website is a classic and a treasure trove. Kids can choose the type of math they want, or they can browse the main page.

Math Playground

It has some ads, but I really like how this website allows kids to choose categories of math. Also, no login is always welcome!

Khan

Here's the Math overview options for 3rd. Khan is a re-teaching environment. This site grew from a casual, volunteer-created video collection for kids who weren't learning at school. It is a kind of an amateur digital tutor. It is FREE! Here's an example lesson.

HoodaMath

This game-based site has been around for many years, and looks dated. It is FREE because it has ads. Here's their math page. The massive benefit of this website is the lack of a login! I tried half a dozen games and unlike ABCYa, none of them were broken due to Adobe.

Sumdog

Sumdog is a free site parents can register their kids on. It has both a math and spelling component. It has lots of slightly game-framed drill facts with middling graphics.

Prodigy

This website emulates an old school adventure video game, which is basically a skin over some math fact review questions. Here's a teacher's overview and jump to 5:35 to see the student view. The graphics are ugly but the kids LOVE it because the questions are rewarded with "battles" which makes it seem like the answers matter.

Funbrain

Funbrain is an older site. It mixes books with digital games blocked out by grade level interest, much like ABCYa.

From Our Math Coach

The K-6 Math Coach, Holly Knox, recommended Stanford's site: Youcubed.org which is free. It is a blend of print and online resources. There are some neat looking games.

Holly also recommended Tetris as the type of problem-solving, spatial game that does kids of all ages a lot of good! Tetris can be found for free at Hooda Math.
