LHS Onsight Testing

Juniors and selected sophomores will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026. This exam provides practice for the SAT and also serves as the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program, which recognizes high-achieving students with scholarship opportunities. All juniors have been registered for the PSAT/NMSQT, and a $20 assessment fee posted to their MySchoolBucks account unless the junior has already been successfully opted out. Selected sophomores received an invitation by email to participate and were required to register through MySchoolBucks ($20 assessment fee).

On test day, they should arrive at their assigned room by 7:25 a.m. with a fully charged computer and charger. Testing will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. Schedule for testing week can be seen HERE

Technology Action Required: Students must complete the Student Device Information Form. Then, please review these resources at home: PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide, About Bluebook Digital Testing, and the Bluebook App (the testing application from College Board). COLLEGE APPLICATIONS COLLEGE APPLICATIONS

When you are applying to college directly or through Common App there are many steps that need to be completed. I have listed these steps for you on our Legend website. Please click here to see what is required to fill out Naviance, request a Letter of Recommendation (LOR), and request a transcript.

Requesting Transcripts

Transcripts must be requested through Naviance once you have moved the applicable colleges to “Colleges I’m Applying To.” Once your application has been submitted and payment has been made through MySchoolBucks ($3 per transcript), I will upload your transcript to the requested school.

Pay attention to the College Admission Deadlines. Once I have received a transcript request there are items that need to be completed on my end. It can take up to three weeks before I am able to send your information. For example if you have a college deadline of 10/22/26 your transcript request should be sent to me no later than 09/30/26, sooner if possible.

No transcripts will be sent over fall break as our office is closed (Oct 10th-18th).

To receive college credit for the ACC courses you took here at Legend, you must also send an official ACC transcript over to the college directly from ACC.

Letters of Recommendation:

When requesting a LOR please speak with the teacher in person before requesting it through Naviance. You are responsible for ensuring these get completed timely; please follow up with your teachers to ensure deadlines are met.

Transcripts for Scholarships:

No need to purchase transcripts to be sent for scholarship applications. First step is to add the scholarship opportunity in Naviance; this can be done on the "Favorite Scholarships" tab. After adding to Naviance, email Amy Cannode (acannode@dcsdk12.org) with details of where the transcripts should be sent.

Check Your School Email!

I will email your LHS school email if I need clarification or further support from you before sending your transcript. I will not send your transcript until I hear from you.

Students should also check their college email and portal regularly, as colleges use these to share important updates, requirements, and communicate with you if any issues arise.

Watch College Deadlines!

Make sure you are keeping an eye on your college deadlines. This year, Nov 1st and Nov 15th both fall on a Sunday! If those are your college deadlines; your deadline is actually earlier as the post grad team does not work weekends.

Key Application Definitions

Early Decision plans are binding: A student accepted as an Early Decision applicant Must attend the college.

Early Action plans are nonbinding: Students receive an early response to their application but do not have to commit to the college until the normal application deadline of May 1st.

Fee Waiver: A fee waiver may be granted to students who demonstrate financial need, allowing them to have certain school-related or college application fees reduced or waived. A fee waiver is different from a college-provided code for a free application. If you have a code or special offer for a free application, do NOT select “Fee Waiver.”

SCHOLARSHIPS SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarship Opportunities are listed on the LHS website and are updated as they come available. This list is not all encompassing and researching other opportunities is advised.

The college-specific scholarships shown in Naviance is a great resource as you can filter down to the ones you are eligible based on colleges you applied to as well as your specific GPA, SAT scores, ACT scores, etc. This can be found under the Colleges dropdown and "scholarships and money" section.

Several great resources for students and parents include:

FINACIAL AID FINACIAL AID

FAFSA - Open Now!

The U.S. Department of Education opened the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, on September 23rd, ahead of its anticipated Oct 1st launch date. The earlier rollout of the key college aid form could give more students a head start on securing much-needed financial assistance.

The earlier college-bound students and their families fill out the form, the better their chances are of receiving aid, largely because some financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, or from programs with limited funds.

Contact Your Financial Aid Office

Check with the financial aid office at the college or career school you plan to attend for information on available state aid and deadlines. Additional forms may be required.
