Dear Twining Families,

September has been a wonderful start to the school year, and I am so proud of the energy and growth we are already seeing from our students. A highlight of the month was our visit from DoDEA, who came to see the progress we’ve made with the three grants they have awarded our school. This was a great opportunity to showcase the work our students and staff are doing and to reflect on the impact these grants have had on our community. Although we have not received our formal evaluation, initial feedback has been glowing! They were very impressed at the warmth throughout the building from the classroom and hallway decorations to the relationships observed. They also celebrated our custodians noting the cleanliness throughout our building!

One of the grants, Project HEROS, is sunsetting this year. We were able to share the academic progress it supported and celebrate the many successes it brought to our students. We also highlighted Project FIT (Fitness Intervention at Twining), which continues to focus on improving student and teacher health and wellness. Finally, we shared updates on Project BIT (Behavior Intervention at Twining), where we are working hard to strengthen our MTSS-B (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support – Behavior) framework, rewarding positive behaviors and addressing behaviors that do not meet our expectations in constructive ways.

As we move into October, we are excited to welcome families into the building for Parent-Teacher Conferences. We’ve just completed our first round of academic testing and student surveys, giving us valuable data about how our students are doing academically and socially-emotionally. This information will guide the conversations we have as teaching teams and in our PLCs, ensuring that instruction is targeted and responsive to student needs. Parent-Teacher Conferences are a great opportunity to partner together. It is a time to celebrate your child’s progress, reviewing goals, and looking ahead to the rest of the year.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to provide a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for every student at Twining.

Sincerely,

Principal Kurtyka
