Kentucky Thespians Festival Report
The Lafayette Theatre troupe had the opportunity to attend the Kentucky Thespian Festival (KTF) on Western Kentucky University's campus earlier in October. KTF offers students the opportunity to expand their knowledge of theatre through masterclasses and performances, while also connecting with students from theatre troupes around the state.
KTF was especially successful for Lafayette this year, we took 44 students and had the best time! The cast of James and the Giant Peach performed and received exceptional feedback and superior scores across the board. Several students received superior scores on their Thespys performances, and Isabelle Dinh, Grace Hellard, and Maya Duggal performed at the Thespys Showcase. We had multiple students receive scholarships from numerous colleges and universities. Grace Hellard, Reece Owens, and Tyler Terrell, represented the state as State Thespian Officers.

Kentucky Theatre Association's Regional Competition Update
November 1st "James and the Giant Peach" competed in the Central Kentucky regional competition under the KTA umbrella at Centre in Danville, KY! Our show was selected to move on to the state high school theatre competition at UK this weekend. We are SO excited to represent Lafayette High School! Read below from our cast member, Veronika, about her experience traveling with "James..." to the regional competition!
"Regionals was such a fun time! Yes, it was nerve-racking, but I think those are the moments when people really come together and we became a true ensemble who was kind and helpful to each other. We came in that day ready to have the best show ever even though there would be road bumps along the way. In the end, I would say everyone was proud of what we presented no matter what the outcome of the competition would be. We enjoyed our day and got to watch the other schools' shows and have lunch together. Moving on to state is definitely very exciting and I can’t wait to see what this journey has in store for us next!"

Lafayette Theatre Class Update
Are you wondering what our Lafayette Theatre classes have been up to this semester? Read an update from 9th grade Intro to Theatre and Intro to Technical Theatre student, Abby Thomas below!
"Recently, in our Intro to Theatre class, we have just finished our Voice Unit, where we explored the qualities of our voices and learned how to change them in a variety of ways. The final project we completed during this vocal-focused unit was our Puppet Show. Everyone had to write a script for their own unique show, with two characters who have different and distinct voices. To figure out what our characters’ voices were going to be like, we completed a vocal grid, talking about all of the different aspects of a voice, its rate, qualities, pitch, volume, tone, and more. We have just begun our new Movement Unit to explore more of how movement can impact an actor’s performance.
In our Intro to Technical Theatre class, we’ve been focusing on being introduced to our tools and paint. We finished our Tibbs the Safety Mouse project, where we had to safely use different tools and then use two different kinds of paint as our final part of our Safety Unit. Currently, we are working on our Food Prop Project, where we are tasked with creating a prop plate of food using all non-edible mediums. We started with finding images we can use as inspiration and creating a drawn plan for our plate of prop food. Then, after we finished these, we started to create our prop food using any tool we had learned to use, any kind of paint to make it look realistic, and anything we would want to use to make our prop food.
I am having a great time creating things and working on projects in theatre class, being enrolled in tech and theatre performance has been fun!"
