Hispanic Heritage Month Begins!
Hispanic Heritage Month!

Week of Oct 19-23
Haw River Elementary Families,
We have made it to the final week of the semester! As we prepare to close out this grading period, we want to thank our Lion Cub families for your continued support, encouragement, and partnership. Our students have worked hard, grown academically and socially, and demonstrated what it means to ROAR with Respect, Ownership, Academics, and Resilience!
As we finish the semester strong, please continue to encourage your child to arrive at school on time, attend each day, and make positive choices. Every instructional minute matters! We are proud of the progress our Lion Cubs have made and look forward to continued growth and success in the next semester.
Thank you for being an important part of our Haw River family. Let's finish strong, Lion Cubs! 🖤💛🦁
Self-Direct - Autodireccion
🦁 CKH Character Trait: Self-Direct 🖤💛
This month, our Lion Cubs are focusing on Self-Direct through Capturing Kids' Hearts! Being self-directed means making responsible choices, staying focused, setting goals, and taking ownership of our actions and learning. Families can reinforce this trait at home by encouraging children to complete tasks independently, follow routines, and make positive decisions. Together, we can help our Lion Cubs grow into confident, responsible leaders who ROAR with pride!

🩺 A Message from Our School Nurse - Un mensaje de la enfermera
When Should I Keep My Child Home?
We know it can be difficult to decide when your child is too sick for school. Our goal is to keep all of our students and staff healthy and learning!
Please consider keeping your child home when they are experiencing:
🌡️ A fever — especially if your child has a temperature of 100.4°F or higher
🤢 Vomiting or diarrhea — your child should be feeling better before returning to school
😷 Significant coughing, difficulty breathing, or other respiratory symptoms that prevent them from comfortably participating in school
😴 Extreme tiredness or weakness that makes it difficult to participate in normal school activities
👁️ Pink eye with drainage or symptoms that have not been evaluated when required
🦠 A contagious illness — please follow your healthcare provider's guidance and school guidelines for when your child may return
If your child is not feeling well enough to learn, play, eat, and participate comfortably, it may be best to give them a day at home to rest and recover.
Thank you for helping us keep our Lion Cubs healthy! 💙🦁
If you are unsure whether your child should attend school, please contact the school nurse for guidance.
