At Cherokee Trail we focus on six traits, teaching and fostering them in our classrooms and school-wide in order to create learners who are strong academically and socially.
They are:

In DECEMBER we will be reviewing the EPICER traits we’ve learned so far and thinking of ways to use them at school and at home!

AT HOME: Discuss with your student: "Gratitude isn’t just for the month of November. It is all year long. Try to show gratitude each day, in either big or small ways."

FROM THE AP
Welcome back from Thanksgiving break and to the quickest three weeks of the year! The last several days, as I have talked with students, I have discovered that I am definitely not the only person in the world who doesn't like turkey. In fact a majority of students have told me, "eeeh turkey is. . . .ok." However, I will say kudos to my husband for smoking (and brining, seasoning, etc) the best turkey I have ever eaten.
As I write, it is snowing outside. And with the weather change I want to surface a couple of things that various school staff members have asked me to share with our community:
- When pulling in the school parking lot for pick up and drop off, please do not stop in the crosswalk. Please also watch out for students, families, and staff members who are in or getting ready to enter the crosswalk. We want to make sure no one gets hit or hurt.
- If you are walking your student(s) to or from school, please wait for one of the EAs to help with crossing the street. It becomes confusing for drivers and students who are not accompanied by an adult when other students and adults are crossing without the "crossing guard."
- When in the carpool line, students should only leave or enter your car if you are in the lane closest to the building. Please do not let your child out in the lane furthest from the building or ask them to cross traffic to get into your car at the end of the day. Asking your child to cross traffic to or from your car is a dangerous situation, and we want to ensure that all students are safe.
- We have noticed a rise in families checking out their student(s) between 3:10 and 3:30. We recognize that sometimes students have appointments or other obligations necessitating that. However, this time is when students are summing up their day, ensuring they have everything they need to bring home, etc. We are requesting that students only be checked out during this time for things like appointments, or other obligations - not to avoid the after school traffic, avoiding the busy school hallways, etc,
THE PRINCIPAL CHRONICLES
The Principal Chronicles continue ...
Well, Winter sure did show up in a hurry. As I write this, it is Tuesday after Thanksgiving break, and yesterday it was about 10 degrees, and today it is around 40 but then tomorrow it is supposed to be a giant snowstorm. As you all know, any time a teacher hears the word snowstorm, they immediately put their PJs on inside out when they get home, throw ice cubes in the toilet, and pray for a snow day. Of course, that rarely happens, but the superstition persists.
Here at school, we are starting our winter testing cycle. All of our students begin their iReady testing today, and it should take them the remainder of the week as our teachers try to chunk out the tests so it doesn't overload the students. We have a ton of testing this time of year, but it is needed so we can see what exactly the students have learned so far this year. Hard to believe that the year is already half over.
On the home front, it was a nice week off. I made lots of poor food choices and spent some time with my parents. In addition, the human tornado also came home for break. In the course of a day and a half, her clean room turned into a dump. On Sunday of break, as I was cleaning the house, I found 6 Taco Bell bags in her room. SIX!! None of which were found actually in the trash can. She was home 90% of the time, so I have no idea how any of those bags got into her room or when she had the time to consume them. Plus, who can eat at Taco Bell six times in one week? You'd think her lower intestine would collapse. Either way, it was nice to have her back. Of course, she will be back again in two weeks when her semester is over. Who knows, maybe she will get a second job at Taco Bell.
That is it for this week's episode. Stay tuned for next week when the Principal Chronicles continue ....
