Our Tigers Are Off to a Roaring Start!

Dear Torringford Families,

What a wonderful start to the school year! It’s hard to believe our first month is already behind us. Our Tigers have jumped right into their school routines with enthusiasm, kindness, and lots of smiles!

A special thank you to our PTO for sponsoring our very first Touch-A-Truck event. What a fun evening it was! Our playground was filled with beeping horns, flashing lights, sirens, children’s laughter, and plenty of smiles. We are so grateful to all of our community supporters who brought their amazing vehicles with big wheels for our students to explore. It was an experience our Tigers won’t forget!

As the leaves begin to change, we’re excited to keep the momentum going with even more opportunities for our students and families to learn, connect, and have fun together. We have some exciting events ahead, including Storybook Character Day, the Fall Festival at Ruwet, and our All-In for Torri Day!

We are so grateful for our partnership with Torringford families. You are an important part of your child’s success! If you ever have a question, concern, or simply want to check in, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Our teachers are always happy to connect with you and will continue to keep you updated on your child’s learning and progress.

Thank you for being such an important part of the Torringford community. When families, school, and community come together, our Tigers thrive!

With Tiger Pride,

Kelly Galullo (Principal) & Georgia Austin (Assistant Principal)

Torringford Tigers are RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, and SAFE!

At Torringford School, we use PAWSOME Cards to recognize and celebrate students who make positive choices. This school-wide approach helps build a positive school community where all students feel safe, respected, and ready to learn.

Throughout September, our school focused on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors across all settings, including classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, the cafeteria, and school buses. By making expectations clear and consistent, we help students understand what it means to be a Torringford Tiger!

When students demonstrate these expectations, we celebrate their efforts through verbal praise, PAWSOME Cards, special privileges, and other rewards. Recognizing positive choices encourages students to take responsibility, show respect for others, and contribute to a safe and welcoming school environment.

Families play an important role, too! You can reinforce these same expectations at home by praising positive choices, setting clear expectations, and establishing consistent routines. When home and school work together, we strengthen the positive behaviors that help our students grow and succeed.

Celebrating Our PAWSOME Tigers!

In September, 206 PAWSOME Cards were awarded! Congratulations to our students who earned special experiences in recognition of their positive choices:

  • Olivia Mackiewicz (grade 3): Fancy Lunch with Mrs. Austin
  • Anna Shi (kindergarten): Bracelet Making with Mrs. Henry
  • Miracle Otto (grade 1) Popsicles with the Principals for Her Entire Class
  • Asher Martel (grade 1): Orbeez with Mrs. Austin
  • Leila Batchelder (grade 3) Legos with Mrs. Galullo

We are so proud of our Torringford Tigers for showing what it means to be respectful, responsible, and safe!

Thank you for partnering with us to create a positive learning environment for every student. When your child shares a PAWSOME Card or tells you about a positive choice they made at school, be sure to celebrate their success!

A Message from the School Psychologist A Message from the School Psychologist

🌟 School Psychologist Corner 🌟

It has been a wonderful start to the school year, and I have truly enjoyed getting to know

our students, teachers, and families! As the school psychologist, one of my favorite parts of

my role is having opportunities to work directly with students and help support their

academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and friendship skills.

Throughout the school year, I will be visiting our classrooms to provide age-appropriate

social-emotional lessons and conversations based on the needs and interests of each grade

level. In our PreK and Kindergarten classrooms, we will be focusing on understanding and

expressing feelings, recognizing emotions, and learning simple strategies for managing big

feelings. As students get older, classroom visits may focus on topics such as friendship and

social skills, empathy, problem-solving, coping with stress, managing strong emotions,

executive functioning, positive decision-making, conflict resolution, and being a supportive

member of our school community.

These conversations are an opportunity for students to learn that social-emotional skills are

just like academic skills—we practice them, make mistakes, ask for help, and continue to

grow. My goal is to help create a school environment where students feel safe, supported,

included, and connected, while also giving them practical tools they can use both in and

outside of school.

I am looking forward to continuing to work with our students and staff throughout the

year and finding meaningful ways to support the whole school community. Thank you for

helping us make this such a positive start to the year!

As always, please feel free to reach out if there is anything I can do to support your child or

family. I am always happy to connect and help in any way I can.

Warmly,

Emily DiCostanzo, MA, CAS

Growing a Love of Reading at Home!

Reading together, sharing stories, and talking about books are wonderful ways to nurture your child’s love of reading. Your encouragement and involvement help strengthen reading skills, build confidence, and make reading an enjoyable part of everyday life.

We are excited to share these Family Activities and short Family Videos with simple, engaging ways to support your child’s growth as a reader. Together, you can build vocabulary, practice letter sounds, read and spell words, and strengthen reading comprehension.

A few minutes of reading and practice each day can make a difference! Thank you for partnering with us to help your child grow as a reader and develop a lifelong love of books.
