National School Counseling Week 2026 will be celebrated from Feb. 2–6, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact that 131,000+ school counselors can have in helping over 50 million K-12 students achieve school success and plan for a career.

Murchison Elementary will be hosting GirlStart again this Spring. Girlstart After School provides 4th & 5th-grade girls with a fun, free, weekly STEM enrichment program in the fall and spring semesters that builds confidence and encourages them to pursue paths to higher education and discover more significant career opportunities. Additionally, Girlstart After School seeks to enhance and supplement girls’ classroom science learning through engaging activities that introduce important STEM concepts in a hands-on and informal environment. As a standards-aligned STEM program, Girlstart After School supports the science and math learning recovery for our participants. Girlstart’s STEM CREW program leaders serve as role models and empower their program members to be “brave, creative, and curious.”

The first Girlstart club will be on January 29th and will take place weekly on Thursdays from 3:00-4:15 p.m in room 402. Students can sign up by completing the registration/permission form found here: Registration Form (English) or Registration Form (Spanish). The deadline to apply is Friday, January 30th as we can only accommodate 20 participants. This program will run from January 29 to February 26th, 2026. Participation in Girlstart will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis. We have a few spots left for this semester. Please ensure that weekly participation will be consistent before registering your child.

Elementary and middle school students, families, and educators are invited to participate in FREE hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fun on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. CT on The University of Texas at Austin campus.

UT Austin’s national award-winning STEM Girl Day recruitment program, presented by Women in STEM (WiSTEM), gives elementary and middle school students a chance to explore STEM through grade-appropriate, hands-on activities hosted by scientists, engineers, astronomers, mathematicians, and other STEM enthusiasts from student organizations, research centers, corporate partners and community organizations. All genders are welcome!

Parents, we have the exciting opportunity to have author Kate Messner visit our students in grades 1 through 4 on February 3rd! She will be discussing her process as an author as well as her newest book called Camp Monster! It's a fun, lighthearted graphic novel perfect for fans of InvestiGators!

We are currently seeking sponsors for our upcoming Field Day! This years theme "Reading Rainbow: Take a Look, It's in a book, PE is everywhere"combines literacy and movement. Sponsorship will help provide tshirts for every student and staff member, as well as fun activity experiences. We appreciate any support in helping make this a memorable day for our school community. The Hendrickson High School Silver Dancers are hosting their annual Silver Dancer Slumber Party event on February 12th from 5:30-7:30pm. This event is for any potty trained 3 year old - 5th grade student.
