Students in 2nd - 5th grade recently completed a unit on Digital Citizenship. Each student created a poster focussing on three main standards: Making Healthy Media Choices, Sharing Information Online, and Using Media Tools For Good. What are some rules you use with your children regarding devices (cellphones, video games, streaming services)? In Library Media Class we learned the importance of limiting our screen time to under two hours daily. We practiced making choices that would provide our body with a healthy balance like taking a walk outside and then playing 30 minutes of our favorite video game. We discussed information you can share online and information that should NEVER be shared online. We also focused on ways to use Media to make our world a better place and eliminate negative responses like cyberbullying.

A few other tips families should try are:

1. Setting "screen free" zones during meals and at bedtime.

2. Finding a hobby or activity that does not involve ANY technology.

3. Remember when online you should always, "Pause, Think, and Act". Sometimes our emotions may affect our actions online. Pause first, think next, and finally act.

Webster Wildcats are Digital Citizens 100% everyday!
