As we approach Election Day tomorrow, November 3, I encourage our families and community members to take the time to become informed about the candidates and issues on the ballot and exercise their right to vote.

One of the foundations of our nation is our representative democracy, and its success depends on an informed and engaged electorate. Public education plays an essential role in that process. By providing educational opportunities to all students, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances, we help prepare future generations to think critically, make informed decisions, and participate meaningfully in our democracy.

Our schools do more than teach academic subjects. They help students develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary to become engaged and responsible citizens. This is one of the many reasons public education is so important to the future of our communities and our nation.

As we head into the colder months, I also want to remind families to review our district's inclement weather procedures, which are outlined in more detail below. Decisions to delay or cancel school are never easy, and weather conditions can vary throughout our district. Please remember that parents and guardians always have the option to keep their children home if they feel local weather or road conditions make travel unsafe. Simply notify your child's school, and the absence will be excused. We appreciate your understanding as we work to make the best decisions possible for the safety of our students and staff.

Thank you for your continued support of Lansing USD469 and the important work happening in our schools every day.

Sincerely,

Marty Kobza
Superintendent

Inclement Weather Procedures Reminder Inclement Weather Procedures Reminder

As colder weather approaches, we want to remind families of Lansing USD469's inclement weather procedures.

Decisions to delay or cancel school are never easy, and we understand that weather and road conditions can vary throughout our district. When making these decisions, Superintendent Kobza consults with area superintendents and district transportation and facilities personnel to assess conditions and determine the safest course of action.

Please remember that parents and guardians always have the option to keep their children home if they feel weather or local road conditions make travel unsafe. If you choose to do so, simply contact your child's school to report the absence as weather-related, and it will be excused.

Depending on conditions, the district may implement a two-hour delayed start, two-hour early release, school closure for students, or full district closure.

We encourage all families to review our Inclement Weather Closure Guidelines ahead of time so they are familiar with the procedures.

While we hope winter weather won't disrupt our school days anytime soon, we appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our students and staff safe!
