Week 9
October 6 - 10, 2025
Message from Ms. Melgar
Multnomah Store Opens
The students have been working hard collecting their Multnomah Money. The Eagle Store will be open this Wednesday. Teachers will bring the entire class to the library on their scheduled time. Here is the planning sheet for students to think about how they will be spending their funds. Ask them when they get home what they purchased at the store and why.
Continue to encourage the students to collect Multnomah Money as it is also a great way to teach students about financial literacy.
Getting Jiggy with Grands!
Thank you to all of our wonderful grandparents for joining for our Grandparents Day celebration. Here is a highlight reel of all the fun that was had. Parents, please share the link with our Grandparents! I am sure they would love to see the video/pictures.
Suicide Awareness and Prevention
This week during Coffee with the Principal I will speak to you what we will be showing our students beginning Wednesday as we speak about having "Big Feelings" and how to reach out for help.
I am linking all the videos (both for parents and students) here so that you may preview and/or expand your discussion with your child at home.

Thank you Mr. Mex and Mr. Albert!
Thank you parents and staff on collaborating on this wonderful basket for Mr. Mex and Mr. Albert! We are so lucky to have them both as they are always putting the children first! The basket was filled with gift cards, snacks, drinks, and most importantly, heartfelt messages for our small but mighty crew. Thank you Mr. Mex and Mr. Albert.
Coffee with the Principal
During Coffee with the Principal, in addition to our suicide awareness and prevention video, we will be discussing upcoming events, enrichment activities, extended learning, and our upcoming Masked Singers event. Remember, if you want to surprise your kid(s) and perform, the RSVP is due November 1st.
5th Grade: USC NAI
Attention ALL 5th Grade Parents
The USC McMorrow Neighborhood Academic Initiative is a college access and success program that has been preparing students for college admission since 1991. Students apply to the middle school program as 5th graders and are selected to begin their middle school journey in the spring of their 5th grade year.
Through college immersion, rigorous coursework, and participation in a 20-week per school year Saturday Academy, NAI Scholars leave the program with confidence and ready to tackle new challenges.
Students apply for the middle school program as 5th graders, and then again for the high school program as 8th graders. Participation in the middle school program does not guarantee acceptance into the high school program.
I've attached materials here for your review.

- February 2026 - Teacher recommendation forms will be requested
- March 2026 - Decision letters are sent by mail and email
5th Grade Parent Survey
At publication, I have 34 out of 62 parents who have responded to the survey. We need to know your interest for the 5th grade overnight field trip. Don't miss out. If you are not able to upload your photos/video because your file is too big, just email to it me. Under subject: Child's Name (5th grade video). Link to survey.
iReady Challenge
We just completed Challenge #1 and 62 students beat it! Each student will be receiving five Multnomah Dollars so they can purchase whatever they like. They've earned it! Mrs. Gonzalez will be giving them a special shout out on Monday Morning.
For October, please see the challenge below. We will be looking for both individual and class recognition. Please note that this Sunday night, iReady will be down for maintenance.
