Notes from Mr. L
In addition to these team building events, the students are diving into some excellent learning. I get the awesome opportunity to visit their classrooms to see and hear the learning, projects, and presentations. I can tell you that your students are putting forth a fantastic amount of effort to show growth in their education every day.
Scullen-A-Palooza
September 24th, we had a pack the house event called Scullen-a-Palooza. We asked the students to come back to Scullen to cheer on the Volleyball, Soccer, and Flag Football teams. Our sharks had so much fun cheering, enjoying Kona Ice, and most importantly, enjoying time with friends. Our iLead student group provided cheering equipment and lead in the fun. One thing that really stuck out was how polite our students are. It is very easy and common for a middle school student to "cut the line." Your students naturally made a single file line for everything. Enjoy this short video that was created by one of our Scullen Sharks, Brandon W.
6th and 7th Grade Amazing Race Team Building
On Friday, October 2nd, our 6th and 7th grade sharks participated in an Amazing Race Field Day team-building event. The event was a great way to bring the student body together and build community with the students and staff. Each challenge was developed to meet targeted social emotional learning (SEL) behaviors such as communication, problem-solving skills, leadership, and team building. Teams worked together to complete various mental and physical challenges. Not to mention the fact that the students had fun! A huge thank you to the Amazing Race Committee and Fox Valley Recreation for planning and prepping this event and our Shark staff who were outside building relationships with students and ensure they were able to complete the tasks.
8th Grade Physics Field Day
Our 8th grade students had the opportunity to experience Physics Field Day, an exciting, hands-on learning experience where students take their classroom knowledge outdoors to explore the world of physics in action. Parent volunteers lead students through a variety of interactive stations designed to highlight key physics concepts such as motion, forces, energy, and momentum.
This event was meant to be both educational and enjoyable - a chance for students to learn through play, collaboration, and discovery. Our goal is to inspire curiosity, deepen understanding, and give students a memorable experience that shows science is all around us.
The learning objectives were for students to ask questions that arise from observing a phenomenon involving force. These observations motivated students' curiosity about force, motion, and energy.
Students carried out investigations to understand the components that comprise a system and to identify the forces that act between pairs of objects in a system.
A huge thank you to the 8th grade Science teachers and the many parent volunteers who made this experience amazing.
Scullen Fall Dance
Last Friday, October 16th, we invited the sharks back to school for our Fall dance. Our students danced, played basketball and volleyball, played trivia, sang karaoke and much more. We hope this event gave our students the opportunity to build on or even make new friends.
