Carberry Elementary Newsletter
October 2023
Note From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you are settling into the school year smoothly. It's a pleasure to see our students back in action, eager to learn and grow. I would like to take this opportunity to share some important updates and reminders for the month of October.
Annual Title I Math Night - October 5th, 5:30 to 7:30 PM
We are excited to announce our Annual Title I Math Night, which will take place on October 5th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. This event is a fantastic opportunity for our students and their families to engage in math-related activities and have some fun while learning together. Math Night is a great way for parents to actively participate in their child's education, and we encourage you to attend.
As an incentive for students to join us, we will be giving out raffle tickets upon their arrival. These tickets will enter them into a draw for some exciting prizes that will be awarded at the end of the evening. We have some wonderful surprises in store, and your child won't want to miss out on the chance to win!
Pizza, salad and water
To keep everyone energized and engaged throughout the event, we will be serving pizza, salad and water. It's a great opportunity to enjoy some quality family time while bonding over a delicious meal. We look forward to sharing this enjoyable evening with you.
Homework Habits and Tips
We understand that homework plays an essential role in reinforcing classroom learning and building independent study skills. As we progress through the school year, we want to emphasize a few important homework habits and tips:
1) Reading Time: Most of our elementary homework revolves around reading for 20-30 minutes each day. Whether with or without parents, this time spent reading is invaluable for your child's development.
2) Designated Homework Time and Space: Establishing a consistent time and place for homework each day helps create a structured routine that can improve focus and productivity.
3) Adequate Sleep: To support your child's academic success, it's crucial they get plenty of sleep. Establishing a regular bedtime routine and ensuring they have a peaceful sleep environment can make a significant difference.
4) Screen Time Management: Limiting screen time for the last 30-60 minutes before bedtime can help your child wind down and get to sleep more easily. Encourage activities like reading or gentle stretching during this time.
We appreciate your partnership in nurturing these essential habits in our students. Together, we can ensure they are well-prepared for success in school and beyond.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. We look forward to seeing you at our Annual Title I Math Night on October 5th. If you have any questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to reach out to our staff.
Wishing you all a wonderful October!
Sincerely,
Greg Alexander Principal

Welcome to the Carberry Family-Dave Anderson
Hello, my name is Dave Anderson. I am the new Community School Coordinator for Carberry Elementary School. If you are not sure what that means, I would love to explain it to you someday, and what a tremendous resource the Community Schools programs can be for our students, families, and the community! My wife and I built our home in the middle of a 5 acre apple orchard in Emmett twenty three years ago. We were blessed to raise our three kids here in the valley, send them to school, and now invite our grandkids to come back and visit. Now I get to give back to this wonderful community and the kids at Carberry Elementary. My favorite thing to do in life when not with family is fly fishing. If you ever see on my agenda, “meeting with Mr. and Mrs Brown”, that is code for me and my fly rod being on some river somewhere pursuing my favorite hobby. In addition to working for Carberry Elementary, I have spent the last 27 years building a successful Real Estate business. Fun Fact about me (but totally random): my major in college was Middle Eastern Studies, where I learned Arabic and spent a little time in Kuwait.

Library News From Mrs. Arnett
Our Fall Book Fair is right around the corner! The school library will be holding a book fair during parent/teacher conferences, October 18th and 19th. We are happy to once again partner with Idaho Book Fairs for this event, which raises funds for new books.
News From the Nurse
Many parents are asking if they should keep their sick child at home? Please consider these guidelines:
¶ Fever greater than 100.0° F: The child can return to school after he/she has been fever free for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol or Motrin).
¶ Diarrhea/Vomiting: A child with diarrhea and /or vomiting should stay at home and return to school only after being symptom-free for 24 hours.
¶ Persistent Cough &/or sore throat: Please consider keeping them home especially if they are unable to participate in class.
Keeping a sick child home prevents the spread of illness in school and allows the child an opportunity to rest and recover. Please call the school nurse if you have questions.
ATTENDANCE AND GO HOME CHANGE OF PLANS
Please have your child to school by 8:30 am to keep their attendance record clean. If they come at 8:35 am or after they are considered tardy. If they are late, the doors will be locked and they will need to ring the bell to be allowed entrance into the building.
ABSENCES
Please call the office either before 8:15 am or after 9:00 am (the office is super busy during that time) if your child will be absent EVEN IF YOU'VE LET THE TEACHER KNOW. Teachers do not always have the opportunity to communicate with the office that a parent has informed them of an absence until the end of the day. You can also leave a message on the office voice mail the night before or before school starts. If you are going to be out of town, please let the teacher AND office know in advance.
GO HOME PLANS:
If the go home plan for your child changes, please either send a note with your child to give to the office stating the change of plans or call the office at 208-365-0839. If you call, you need to do so no later than 3:00 pm (2:00 pm for Early Release Fridays). We do not send notes to classes after this time and calls to classes after this time are very disruptive to teaching. Thank you for respecting and understanding this!
YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CHANGE THE GO HOME PLAN WITHOUT A NOTE, PHONE CALL, OR AT THE LAST MINUTE. Again, thank you for understanding!
