Architectural Drafting
New records set today in the architectural drafting class. Load bearing walls, with the winner reaching 305lbs with an added 2 trailer tires before failure. 2nd place reached 235lbs. Previous weights were under 200lbs without reaching failure. Keep striving for excellence.
Interact Club
BHS Rotary Interact Club members Giada and Jorden shared their experiences attending RYLA camp and reflected on how their involvement in Interact has helped them grow as leaders.
They spoke thoughtfully about building confidence, developing leadership skills, and forming meaningful connections through service and teamwork. Their reflections were a great reminder of the impact programs like Interact and Rotary have in empowering students to lead with purpose.
Senior English
After a bold warm-up round of Shakespearean insults, our English 12 students dove headfirst into Elizabethan language. From a panoply of scenarios, they crafted and performed 20+ line skits packed with thees, thous, and deliciously archaic diction. The laughter, creativity, and linguistic risk-taking did exactly what it was meant to do—readying them for their plunge into the tragedy of Macbeth
We are incredibly proud to celebrate senior Marlie Carmack on earning 2nd place for the state of Oregon at the VFW’s 79th Annual Voice of Democracy Scholarship Program!
Competing against students from across Oregon, Marlie’s voice, insight, and commitment to democratic values truly stood out. This is an outstanding achievement and a testament to her hard work, thoughtfulness, and courage to speak with purpose.
Well done, Marlie—you represent our school and community with excellence
Bandon Youth Basketball
We honored Bandon Youth Basketball Tuesday, January 27 between varsity games. Celebrating the young Tigers who will carry the program forward. The future is bright—and it’s Tiger strong!
Speech & Debate
Speech & Debate team hosted their Winter Sweet Speeches—a fantastic evening highlighting our students’ performances while also supporting the program through a fundraiser. Our students did an outstanding job showcasing their confidence, skill, and hard work, and it was great to see the community come out to support them. Proud of these kids and grateful to everyone who helped make the night a success!
Dance-A-Thon
Our first annual Dance-A-Thon fundraises was a big success! We are still tallying up how much money we made, but it will definately go a long way to help us pay for some play yard updates and end of year activities. Thanks to everyone who donated, and thanks to our students for not being too cool to dance with their peers at school!
School Supplies
Please check in with your students about school supplies. A lot of kids have used all of the pencils and paper that they started the year with. Since this week begins a new semester, please help us make sure your students are prepared and ready to learn! As always, please call or email the office if you would like help providing supplies for your student. (541) 347-4415 or Lwirt@bandon.k12.or.us or Nheim@bandon.k12.or.us.

Annual Coos Curry Electric Regional STEM Fair
HLMS will be hosting a STEM Fair on May 1 for all interested middle school students. This fair is a qualifier for the Regional STEM Fair hosted by Coos Curry Electric Charitable Foundation, with the top 3 projects in each grade level advancing. Prizes will be awarded to winners at each level and originality is encouraged. Students interested in participating should talk to their science teacher. This is an optional opportunity for all HLMS students, except for 5th graders in Ms. Hambly's class who are creating projects as part of their regular science curriculum.
Character Dares
We are starting a new weekly tradition at Harbor Lights. Each week we will have a "Character Dare" challenge, where students are tasked with performing a small task that encourages kindness and community within our school. Every student who completes the dare will be entered into a weekly drawing for a small prize. The first week back after break, students will be challenged to invite someone new to sit with them at lunch!
