Facilities Planning Task Force Update

Thank you, Coupeville! Over the past few months, our community showed up in a big way to share ideas about the future of our elementary school. Families, staff, neighbors, and community partners attended open houses, toured the building, completed the survey, sent emails, and joined conversations at community meetings across town. Your feedback was thoughtful, passionate, and deeply appreciated.

Last night, the Facilities Planning Task Force met to carefully review everything we heard. The team worked hard to consider every perspective so we can move forward with a plan that truly serves our students and our community. Two decisions came out of that meeting.

First, we are slowing down the process. A new elementary school is a once-in-a-generation investment, and our community deserves a solution that addresses the needs you told us matter most. These include:

  • Safety and security for students and staff, including challenges we know exist at the current site and must be solved in any new school
  • Traffic flow and safe access for families, buses, and the surrounding neighborhood
  • Protecting the active eagle nest and the natural setting around our school
  • Clear, consistent communication with our community throughout the process
  • Involving the Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve early in planning
  • Being responsible with the cost to taxpayers
  • A thoughtful and transparent site selection process

We are partnering with the Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve Trust Board as this work moves forward. Coupeville is surrounded by a historic and treasured landscape, and working alongside the Reserve helps ensure that the decisions we make for our students will also be supported by those who care for it.

Second, the Terry Road site has been removed from consideration. We know many community members expressed strong support for this site, and we heard you. After reviewing all of the information shared, the Task Force determined that moving forward with this location would likely delay the project for years. Our students cannot afford that delay, so the team will continue exploring options that allow us to make steady progress.

Because we want to get this right, the district will not pursue a bond in February 2027. This gives the Task Force the time it needs to continue this work, answer the questions our community raised, and bring forward the best possible solution for our students.

We understand that decisions like these matter deeply, and not everyone will agree with every outcome. Our commitment to you is to communicate clearly and often, provide more opportunities for you to share your voice, and keep our students at the center of every decision. We will share upcoming opportunities for input as the work continues.

Thank you for caring so much about our schools and our kids. Coupeville's voice made a difference, and we are grateful for every family and community member who took the time to be part of this process.

Please Take This Survey

Dear Coupeville School District Families,

Your experience and perspective are an important part of helping us understand what’s working well and where we can continue to grow. We’re inviting families to share their feedback through our upcoming Family Survey.

About the Survey: The survey asks about your experience with Coupeville School District, including topics such as family engagement, family support, school climate and family school attendance . It should take approximately 14 minutes to complete, and you may skip any question you prefer not to answer.

Your Responses Are Anonymous: The survey is completely anonymous. Your responses are not connected to your name or your child’s name, and individual responses cannot be traced back to you. Results will be reviewed together to help us better understand the experiences and needs of our families.

How to Participate: The survey will be open from September 28, 2026 through October 23, 2026. You can access it here: https://surveys.panoramaed.com/coupeville/familyfall2026/surveys.

Have More Than One Child? If you have multiple children in our schools, you’re welcome to complete the survey again for each child if their experiences differ.

We’re partnering with Panorama Education to administer the survey and help us understand the feedback we receive.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to share your perspective. Your feedback will help inform how we continue supporting our students, families, and school community.

Meal Price Increase

This year, we increased meal prices at Coupeville Middle School and High School to meet federal program pricing requirements. Breakfast is now $2.30 and lunch is $4.00 for students who do not qualify for free or reduced-price meals. At Coupeville Elementary School, breakfast and lunch remain free for all students under the state's 'Meals for Washington Students' program.

We encourage all middle and high school families to review eligibility criteria and apply for free breakfast and lunch for their students. Families can apply online through Qmlativ, complete a paper application available at any school office, or contact the Food Services Department for assistance. Families can apply at any time during the school year if their circumstances change. If you have questions about eligibility or need help with an application, please reach out to us — we are happy to help!
