Homecoming 2026

Happy Homecoming 2026!

We had a full week of fun with our staff and students as we celebrated Homecoming 2026! Every day brought a new spirit theme filled with enthusiasm, creativity, and memorable wardrobe choices. Be sure to check out our Instagram page for photos highlighting all the excitement from Homecoming Spirit Week: @southhighmpls .

In addition to the spirit days, our Student Council planned a highly entertaining and inclusive pep fest. Fall athletes were recognized for their dedication and hard work throughout the season, while our cheerleaders and pep band energized the crowd with a spirited performance of the school rouser. Homecoming royalty was announced for each graduating class, from the Class of 2027 through the Class of 2030.

Students also enjoyed watching the staff competition, "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Cup," where our very own Ms. Morgan Fierst emerged as the champion. The pep fest concluded with the traditional tug-of-war competition, with the Class of 2027 seniors claiming the championship title. It was fun for all!

A special shout-out goes to our Girls Volleyball team, which hosted this year's Homecoming Game. Every set was hard-fought and filled with fierce competition. Fans were on the edge of their seats throughout the match, creating an exciting atmosphere in the gym. While the final result was not the outcome we hoped for, our players demonstrated tremendous determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship, making them winners in the eyes of our families and fans.

We closed out Homecoming Week with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night. More than 300 students attended the three-hour event, enjoying dancing, games, snacks, and time with friends. Students were on their best behavior, creating an atmosphere of celebration, excitement, and joy. They danced the night away, sang along to their favorite songs, and made lasting memories together. Moments like these remind us what high school is all about: community, celebration, connection, and joy.

Quarter One - Finishing Strong

As we enter the final three weeks of Quarter 1, we are asking for your partnership in helping every student finish the quarter strong. With just 13 school days remaining before the quarter ends on November 13, every day counts toward academic success.

Families play an important role in helping students stay on track. Please take a few moments to encourage your student to:

  • Arrive at school on time each day.
  • Get to every class on time and prepared to learn.
  • Regularly check grades and missing assignments.
  • Complete homework and assignments by the due date.
  • Communicate with teachers if they need support or have questions.
  • Take advantage of opportunities to make up missing work when available.

Our goal is for every student to meet their academic goals and successfully pass their classes as we wrap up the first quarter. Strong attendance, consistent effort, and timely completion of assignments can make a significant difference during these final days.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we can help our students finish Quarter 1 with confidence and set the stage for a successful school year.

Reminder - PSAT Exam (Oct 28)

The PSAT exam will take place in the South library at 8:00am on Wednesday, October 28. Students should arrive 30 minutes earlier to check in. Please note - this start time is *before* regular school hours. The PSAT is a practice test for the SAT college entrance exam. As such, it is optional and has no bearing on college acceptance; however, for 11th graders it IS the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship. 9th, 10th, and 11th graders can register, but only 11th grade scores are considered for the scholarship.

For students taking the PSAT, we recommend a good nights sleep and a healthy breakfast before arriving to school. We will open Main Doors at school as early as 7:45am for students to ENTER and get settled before the start of the exam.

As we lean into this weeks exam, we want to highlight our very own, National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist. She is one of 16,000 students, nationwide, who have earned this distinction. This is less than 1% of US high school graduating seniors. Please join us in congratulating her and wishing "good vibes" to those taking the exam this week!! Congrats Phobe Martinson.

Please contact testing coordinator Fred Cheng with questions at 612-668-4355 or fred.cheng@mpls.k12.mn.us.
