The Au Gres-Sims School District
www.ags-schools.org
Au Gres-Sims Families,
We have a beautiful campus here at AGS, one that we take pride in and that we want to maintain for as long as possible. Just like your homes, however, that upkeep requires attention in the form regular maintenance. That preventative maintenance and attention to what we have comes with a cost, but that cost is small in comparison to full scale replacement, especially in an emergency.
In November of 2026 the district will be placing a small millage proposal on the ballot to do just this, to "take care of what we've got," in the form of a sinking fund. We have a lot of time between now and then but there are processes to be followed in things such as this, and certain deadlines that must be met. For this reason we are looking to get information out early regarding this effort.
Next Tuesday, May 19th, we are inviting members of the community to attend our Capital Projects Sinking Fund Information Meeting at 7pm in the High School Library (Cyber Cafe). During the approximately 1 hour long meeting we will share what a sinking fund is and isn't, describe the projects that we anticipate needing attention, and provide the financial picture of what it all means to constituents.
This is part of our plan to get information out to the public in a timely manner and to answer any questions about the proposal. Over the summer we anticipate answering questions, but also allowing our public to enjoy the sunny (hopefully) weather. The benefit of a November election is that we can do this and then start the informational campaign back up when school resumes in late August...with plenty of time before the voters cast their votes.
I hope to see you Tuesday night and to answer your questions about the proposed sinking fund to "take care of what we've got" here at AGS.
From the Desk of Mr. Miller
Hey AGS Nation,
Shout out to our #1 ranked band(s), led by Mrs. Gordon, for putting on yet another spectacular Spring Band Concert! It’s always amazing how Mrs. Gordon can take those early “squeaks” and turn them into such a well-balanced, professional, and polished sound.
This week, we focused on the P2 strength of Leadership. At Au Gres-Sims, leadership goes beyond the classroom. Whether it’s in athletics, the arts, clubs, or community events, our students represent AGS with pride, integrity, and teamwork. They step up, support one another, and show what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves.
In our classrooms, students are challenged to think critically, take ownership of their learning, and support one another. Our staff lead by example, creating environments where respect, responsibility, and growth are at the forefront.
It is this commitment, both in and out of the classroom, that continues to set AGS apart and makes our Wolverine community something special.
Thanks & #WolverinesLead
Mrs. Steinbauer's Weekly Update
As we enter the final few weeks of the school year, now is a great time for families to begin building routines that can help prevent the “summer slide.” Small habits started now can make it easier for students to stay engaged in learning throughout the summer months. Encouraging students to read each evening, practice basic math skills during everyday activities, spend time writing, and stay curious through outdoor exploration or educational activities can all make a positive impact. Families can also help by maintaining consistent routines, limiting excessive screen time, and encouraging students to continue challenging themselves academically even after the school year ends. Finishing the year with strong habits helps students carry that momentum into summer and return in the fall ready to learn and grow.
As you make your summer plans, please be aware of our summer school opportunities in grades K-5 and 9-12. Our elementary students will have an opportunity for enrichment based summer school two days per week during the month of June. Spots are limited so please reach out early if you are interested. For our high school students who have failed classes this year, they will have the opportunity to earn back those credits during the month of June. Students would be required to attend three days per week and will be working in our online platform with the help of AGS teachers. Students who have failed will be contacted during the final week of school about this opportunity. If you feel your student has failed classes during the first semester or is in danger of failing second semester please reach out. All information for both summer school options is included on the attached flyers. There is a Google Link on both forms to submit for registration.

Strive for Fewer than Five: Attendance Matters
Next year, the Bay-Arenac ISD and regional partners will continue their efforts to support student attendance and raise awareness about the importance of being in school each day. Families may notice new campaigns, resources, and community messaging designed to help reduce barriers to attendance and highlight the positive impact consistent attendance has on student learning, relationships, and long-term success. Regular attendance helps students stay connected academically and socially, and even a few missed days can add up over time. Families can learn more and access helpful attendance resources through Strive for Fewer Than 5

Finishing the School Year Strong
Dear Families,
As we head into the final month of the school year, this is an important time for students of all ages. May and early June can feel exciting, busy, and sometimes overwhelming. With end-of-year testing, final projects, spring activities, and the anticipation of summer, students may need extra support to stay focused and finish strong.
Here are some helpful reminders and tips to guide your child through the last stretch of the school year:
Support Emotional Well-Being
The end of the year can bring a mix of emotions—excitement, stress, or even worry about transitions. Check in with your child regularly by:
Asking open-ended questions about their day
Listening without rushing to solve problems
Encouraging healthy ways to cope with stress (exercise, time outside, creative activities)
Thinking Forward
Testing out will take place the last two weeks of school.
Dual enrollment courses need to be signed up for with Mrs. Cardinal
Summer school information will be coming out soon for those who need to recover credits.
Seniors must pay all fines in order to walk at graduation.
Wishing you a positive and refreshing spring season,
Ashley Cardinal

The Middle School/High School Handbook has been updated to reflect changes in the process for athletic eligibility. A copy of that process is provided as an attachment below. Eligibility will now be pulled every week, starting with the 3rd week of the semester. These changes have been shared with the coaching staff and will be communicated with their student athletes.
Parent Teacher Organization
The PTO plays an important role in supporting our teachers and students with many of the extras that make AGS so great. Consider joining this wonderful group and helping to make this school year a special one.
