Back from Leave

It was great to be welcomed back from my leave so fondly on Monday by the school community. The leave was definitely a worthwhile experience which has supported my growth and wellbeing as a Catholic School Leader. I sincerely thank Jennifer Anderson and Robyn Salvia who took on the roles of Principal and Assistant Principal in my absence. Both Jen and Robyn did an outstanding job in ensuring our school and community were appropriately catered for and looked after during this time. It certainly gives me comfort knowing the school is in good hands during periods of absence.

Principal Appointment

As was announced at the end of last term, I have been appointed Principal of St Maria Goretti’s Catholic School starting in Term 4. I am both excited for the opportunity and sad to be leaving this fantastic community at the same time. There have been many positive changes over the last 5 years here at QOA, and I believe the school is in a good place to continue this growth into the future. It has been great to be part of such a caring and passionate community, and I have really enjoyed the challenge.

The process to find a new Principal is happening at the moment and hopefully the school community will find out about this appointment before the end of this term. The new Principal will begin their tenure at Queen of Apostles at the beginning of 2026, and I will ensure that I have a thorough handover with the successful applicant. Jennifer Anderson will take on the Acting Principal role in Term 4.

Father’s Day Breakfast and Stall

Tomorrow our dads and father figures will be able to enjoy a yummy breakfast with their children in the undercover area from 7.30am to celebrate Father’s Day. Tomorrow the students will also be able to buy a gift for dad at the Father’s Day stall so don't forget to bring some money along. I thank our P&F for organising both the breakfast and the stall for our community. If Mother’s Day was anything to go by it should be a great morning.

Mila is a wonderful example of what it means to Make Jesus Real every day. She is always kind, caring, and gentle with everyone around her. She shows love and kindness through her actions, whether she’s helping to tidy up, playing with others, or giving kind words. Mila listens carefully, treats others with respect. We are so proud of the way Mila makes our classroom a happier place. Her thoughtful and kind-hearted nature is a beautiful way of showing Jesus' love to others. Well done, Mila, you are truly making Jesus real!

Ava is receiving the Year 1 MJR Award because her daily interactions with those around her truly reflect the values of Jesus.

Ava brings joy to our day, just like Jesus did, using kind words when helping her friends out, or when they are sad.

She speaks to her friends and teachers with respect and kindness; and welcomes us each morning with a beautiful, excited smile.

Ava will happily stop to talk to or help others.

She is a thoughtful and giving friend, who encourages everyone to join in and have fun.

Ava meets each day’s challenges with a smile and a willingness to try to become the best version of herself!

We see our friend Jesus in her every day.

Congratulations Ava; you are living just as Jesus showed us.

Zavier consistently embodies the love and compassion of Jesus in everyday life. He cares for his friends just as Jesus cared for His disciples.

Though quiet by nature, Zavier is always friendly and welcoming to everyone in the class.

He is consistently polite and shows respect to all — friends, classmates and teachers alike.

Through his kindness, integrity, and Christ-like attitude, Zavier makes Jesus real in our community — not just in belief, but in action.

Congratulations, Zavier on receiving the Making Jesus Real Award for Year Two this term.

Our Year Three recipient of the Making Jesus Real Award is Amelia. Amelia has a gentle spirit, interacting with her peers with compassion and care. She is a wonderful friend to all, affirming others with positive statements and lots of warm smiles! Amelia emulates Jesus’ acceptance of others by welcoming everyone into her friendship circle and playing fairly and happily. Indeed, Amelia is full of joy and expresses gratitude for all that she has and all that she is. In class, she works cooperatively with others and always tries her best. Amelia participates in discussions and demonstrates enthusiasm for her work. If she is unsure, Amelia is not too proud to ask for help. She has beautiful manners and speaks and behaves respectfully to all members of the school community. For all these reasons, Amelia is a most deserving recipient of the MJR award.

Oscar shows the Spirit of Jesus through his respect and compassion for others. He shows respect for others by always treating people with care and property with pride. Oscar demonstrates genuine empathy for those around him, and he will always stand up for what is right particularly if he sees someone is being mean on purpose. This is one of the reasons Oscar is an MJR star.

This award is proudly presented to Georgia, who reflects the Spirit of Jesus through her resilience, kindness, and respect. Georgia leads by example. She might not tell you about her achievements or hard work, but she always goes above and beyond. She makes others feel welcome, safe, and valued. She respects her peers and adults, and she finds solutions or compromises on problems. That means she meets the other person half-way. She pushes herself beyond her limits, because she knows she can do hard things, yet she also asks for help when needed. She shows empathy, emotional awareness, and self-regulation. Thank you, Georgia, for Making Jesus Real every day and for showing us that even the smallest acts, done with love, can make a big difference.

This award is proudly presented to Evie, who shines the Spirit of Jesus through her encouragement, kindness, and determination. Evie goes out of her way to make others feel included and welcomed, cheering on her peers and celebrating their successes. She listens respectfully, follows directions, and shows care for those around her. She pushes herself to try new things, gives her best in all that she does, and inspires others through her example. Her actions bring to life the words of her Confirmation Saint, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux:
“Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.” Thank you, Evie, for Making Jesus Real every day and for showing us that even the smallest acts, done with love, can make a big difference.

🕐 Canteen Close

Please note that the canteen closes at 1:20pm, and students are not permitted to purchase after-lunch treats after this time. This allows them enough time to finish their meals prior to the bell.

To avoid disappointment, we kindly encourage families to pre-order any after-lunch items in advance.

Thank you for your understanding and support!

Parking and Drive Thru Arrangements

A reminder for everyone to be aware of our parking and drive through arrangements at the front of the school as the safety of our children is of paramount importance.

  • Vehicles will enter via the middle driveway on Tribute St East.
  • If you wish to park and leave your car to come into the school, please turn to the left and park in one of the bays adjacent to the Early Learning Centre or use the marked roadside bays outside the school.
  • When exiting the car park, you will do so at the exit closest to Vahland Ave.
  • If you are only dropping-off or picking-up, then please veer right and enter the drive-thru area. In this area you may not park or leave your vehicle unattended - it is strictly drop-off or pick- up only!
  • When exiting the drive-thru section you will use the exit closest to Tudor Ave.
  • Children waiting to be picked up are to wait on the verandah, under teacher supervision, and when they see their parent’s car enter the drive-thru, they may proceed down the steps at either end of the ramp and wait on the footpath adjacent to the bay where their parent has pulled up.
  • Children should enter vehicles from the curbside only to avoid passing vehicles.

Volunteering

The Government of WA have amended the Working with Children Act last year with the changes implemented to better protect children. Catholic Education WA has mandated this process for all volunteers, including parent volunteers in schools. This includes parents who wish to volunteer at sports carnivals, in classrooms and at P&F events. Could we ask that all parents fill in the Volunteer Declaration (link) even if you have no plans at this stage to volunteer at school. If you filled out the form last year you will need to do it again this year. Parents who wish to assist teachers on excursions will need to be on this list. Your information will be stored securely in accordance with CEWA’s Information Stewardship. We highly value parent volunteers' time and contribution to our school community and thank-you for taking the time to submit the form below.

Any grandparents that wish to volunteer in the classroom or assist in the canteen will need a Working With Children Check. Please note this does not include drop off, pick up or attendance at our Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea. Grandparents that would like to volunteer at school, please contact the school office and we can assist you in the process.

ONE BIG VOICE 2025 RAC ARENA

Dear Parents,

On Friday 29th August, our Year 3 to 6 choir members proudly participated in the One Big Voice Concert at RAC Arena — and once again, it was a truly unforgettable experience!

This was a sold-out event involving 166 schools, over 8000 students and nearly 15,000 spectators… AND WHAT A NIGHT IT WAS!!!

The 43 students involved immersed themselves wholeheartedly in this magical experience, and their enthusiasm, conviction, and joy shone through every performance. I am incredibly proud of their dedication and the energy they brought to the stage.

Our choir members worked extremely hard to reach performance level, attending regular before-school rehearsals. A huge thank you to each student for fulfilling this commitment with such positivity and passion. I’d also like to acknowledge our Year 2 students who were unable to attend the event. Your encouragement and involvement helped lift the group to new heights by joining us during choir practise. To those who consistently attended choir practices but couldn’t be part of the concert—your dedication did not go unnoticed. Thank you for being a committed and dedicated choir member.

I would also like to say a big thank to Mrs Salvia and Mrs Anderson for helping on the day. Mrs Salvia ran our last rehearsals prior to leaving school and both ran around organising the final details before getting the students on the bus. I couldn’t have done it without your support, so thank you.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and caregivers for your ongoing support — from getting your child to early morning practices to attending the concert and cheering them on. Your involvement makes all the difference.

Once again, thanks to the support of our Queenies community. It truly was a magical experience!

Regards

Sheryl Perry
