Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is coming soon and we are super excited to begin planning for such a fun day for your children. Valentine’s Day will be celebrated in all three elementary schools on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. There will be classroom parties and Valentine’s Day cards.

Valentine’s Day Cards - We request that you adhere to the following guidelines:

  • No candy of any kind may be distributed with the cards.

  • The cards must be brought to school no later than Friday, February 10, 2023. This will allow for the cards to be distributed before the special day.

  • If you elect to participate in the Valentine’s Day Card exchange, it is expected that your child gives a card to every classmate.

Star Reports - For Students in Grades 1-5

The Star parent report and the Star annual progress report will be sent home today in your child's backpack.

The students complete the STAR assessments during the school year in literacy and mathematics. The STAR assessments are diagnostic assessments designed to provide educators and parents with important information about the students' progress..

KRS Community Service Project - Coming soon!

The KRS school safety committee is planning school-wide community service projects for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year. Our first project will be a collection in February for the Valerie Fund. The Valerie Fund's mission is to provide individualized care to centers close to home ( There are centers at Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center and others.), focused on a belief that the most effective way to heal the children under their care is to treat them emotionally, socially, developmentally, as well as medically. More details about the project will be communicated to you via email and in future newsletters. For more information about the Valerie Fund, please look here.

News from Media Specialist Ms. Thomas

For 13 years, World Read Aloud Day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience, and read-aloud! The global effort, created by the non-profit LitWorld and sponsored by Scholastic, is celebrated annually in over 173 countries and is all about bringing people together through the shared connection of reading aloud in all of our communities.

Scholastic authors will be reading live! Check out the schedule and directions for downloading their app so you don’t miss this great opportunity!

Enjoy this weekend’s poem from, Sing a Song of Seasons: A Nature Poem for Each Day of the Year

“Be Like the Bird”

By Victor Hugo

Be like the bird, who

Resting in his flight

On a twig too slight

Feels it bend beneath him,

Yet sings

Knowing he has wings.
