Solar Eclipse

Hello Haynes Families,

I promised myself I wouldn't make any comments about New England weather, and how we went from snow last Thursday to upper 60s and sunny this week. So, this is me not making that comment. I hope you all enjoyed the eclipse on Monday. It was truly an incredible phenomenon to see, and the pictures and videos of those that witnessed totality are amazing. We had a staff meeting scheduled on Monday, so we made sure to get through the agenda with enough time for our staff to get outside and see it. The picture here shows some of our teachers taking in the view.

Last Friday was Haynes Movie Night, and it was a lot of fun! I was able to bring my older two kids to Movie Night so they could enjoy Migration as well. The proceeds of the event go towards our 5th graders and their end-of-year activities, and what's great about it is the focus was much more on community than raising money. Students, families, and siblings were able to be in each other's company and enjoy a Friday night together.

Yesterday, we had a visit from the Curtis ensemble groups who put on a beautiful concert for our students and staff as part of their Town Tour. It is incredible to listen to the Sudbury students perform, and know that for many of them their time in elementary school led to their interest in the musical arts.

As you can see from the pictograph below, there are a lot of really fun and exciting events coming up at Haynes this spring! Grade-levels will have their Curriculum Celebrations, we have the Fun Run/Walk, Field Day, Book Fair, Around the World Celebration, and more!

I want to wish you all a very Happy Patriot's Day and have a great April Break.

Best,

Bryant Amitrano

Fun Run/Walk & Field Day Fun Run/Walk & Field Day

This May, we will have our 2nd annual Fun Run/Walk as well as Field Day. There will be more information coming out about the events, and I wanted to let you know of the dates for planning purposes. The Fun Run/Walk will be on Friday, May 17th from roughly 8:30-9:30 AM with a rain date of Friday, May 24th. We will hold Field Day on Friday, May 31st with two sessions for K-2 students and 3-5 students. We have a planning session scheduled for the week after break, so we will have more information soon regarding the specific details.

For both events, there will be volunteer and spectator options for caregivers. We will send out a sign-up sheet for both events, so we know who will be attending with a check-in table at the entrance to the playground area. Please be on the lookout for information regarding both events!

What Strep Throat Looks Like
zoom_out_map

Repeat Offender

I have seen a fair amount of strep throat in the last month. Unfortunately, many students are finishing their antibiotics only to be positive again a few weeks later. Untreated strep can lead to rheumatic fever or kidney damage, so it is important to do a throat culture if strep is suspected. The symptoms I see most are sore throat, stomach pain, and visible white patches on tonsils. I am not seeing many fevers. Notify your pediatrician if your child is showing signs of strep throat. If your child is diagnosed and prescribed antibiotics, be sure to complete the whole duration they were prescribed. Stopping early can leave the hard-to-kill bacteria left with plenty of newly opened space to spread. Getting a new toothbrush will also help prevent any reinfection.

Field Trips - Financial Aid & Form Field Trips - Financial Aid & Form

There are field trips in many grades this spring. If you need financial assistance for an upcoming field trip, please send in the permission slip to your child's teacher and complete the form below. If you require a different language or a printed copy, please let Bryant Amitrano know.

Science & Curriculum Enrichment Science & Curriculum Enrichment

Our 3rd graders had a visit from Whalemobile a couple of weeks ago and our fifth graders had a visit from the Museum of Science for Chemistry experiments. I've really been impressed with the enrichment activities that have come to Haynes. Thank you HOP for these experiences!

In May, we will have a visit from Adrian Anatawan at a School Meeting. Adrian is a violinist and a speaker. I look forward to sharing more on this experience with you after his visit!

Cradles to Crayons Cradles to Crayons

Thank you for your help with the clothing drive through Cradles to Crayons and Project 351. Between the donations from Haynes, Nixon, and Noyes along with Curtis, the Curtis Angels were able to fill 42 bags of clothing and shoes. These were delivered to Cradles to Crayons this past Saturday.
