Hermosa School Weekly Recap - Week of May 12-15
Hornet Families,
As we look forward to the final week of school, check out some of the highlights from this week.
8th Grade Hike to Black Elk Peak
On Wednesday, our 8th grade students embarked on a memorable hike to Black Elk Peak alongside the 8th graders from Custer. The group was led by Mr. Trandem, Mrs. Weekley, and Mr. Trandem’s trusty trail companion, Pippi the dog. The students enjoyed the challenge and beauty of the Black Hills while making lasting memories with their classmates and peers from Custer.
2nd Grade Explores Custer State Park
Our 2nd grade class had a full day of exploration during their field trip to Custer State Park. Highlights included a scenic hike, engaging activities at the visitor center, a drive along the wildlife loop, and visits to several iconic sites in the park. It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience and a great way to connect with South Dakota’s natural heritage.
1st Grade Visits the Mammoth Site
Thursday was a big day for our 1st grade students as they headed to the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs. The trip offered a fascinating glimpse into the prehistoric world, and students were thrilled to learn about the ancient creatures that once roamed the area.
Pops Concert and Student Performances
To top off the week, students and staff were treated to several student performances during the annual Pops Concert. The school band delivered fantastic renditions of familiar favorites, and our student performers truly shined. It was a wonderful celebration of musical talent and creativity.
Thank you to all our staff, volunteers, and community partners who helped make this week’s events possible. We’re proud of our students and grateful for the opportunities they have to learn and grow—both in and out of the classroom!
