The Elgin ISD Board of Trustees has officially begun the search for the district’s next superintendent, following Dr. Jana Rueter’s announcement that she plans to retire at the end of December, 2026. Dr. Rueter’s final day serving as Superintendent will be June 30. Dr. Rueter will then serve as EISD’s Superintendent Emeritus until December 31.
Selecting the next superintendent is among the Board’s most important responsibilities. Trustees are committed to identifying a leader who will build upon the district’s strengths, support student achievement, and continue fostering meaningful relationships with students, staff, families, and the broader Elgin community.
To assist with the search, the Elgin ISD Board of Trustees has partnered with the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services. TASB Executive Search Services has been building successful leadership teams in Texas school districts for more than 30 years and is dedicated to supporting districts in the search for exceptional superintendents who will ensure continued success and excellence for students, staff, and the community.
Opportunities for stakeholder input and community feedback are important to EISD Trustees, as they work to identify highly qualified candidates to lead the district into the future.
The Board has requested that school personnel and the public be involved in developing a profile of the leadership qualities desired in the person the Board should seek to become the new superintendent. Members of the community may share their input via a Leadership Profile Questionnaire at our EISD Superintendent Search Website.

La Mesa Directiva de Elgin ISD ha comenzado oficialmente la búsqueda del próximo superintendente del distrito, tras el anuncio de la Dra. Jana Rueter de que planea jubilarse a finales de diciembre de 2026. El último día de la Dra. Rueter como Superintendente será el 30 de junio. Después, servirá como Superintendente Emérita de EISD hasta el 31 de diciembre.
