Dear Flower Valley Community,

The week ahead is Read across America Week. Check out all of the activities and spirit days below. We look forward to seeing everyone at FVES Wednesday night for Reading Night! :)

In this newsletter, you will find important information about Reading Night, spring testing, kindergarten enrollment, the MCPS asynchronous make-up snow day, and an upcoming FVES community conversation.

In case you missed the message yesterday, the annual PTA sponsored Staff vs. Parents Basketball Game and Silent Auction are being rescheduled due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict with the Rockville High School gym space. We are so grateful to our staff, students, and families for all of their hard work preparing for this event. We will keep you updated as we learn more about potential new dates this spring.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Dr. Fish

Monday, April 22 will shift to an asynchronous learning day for all students. The day is designated as a professional development day for teachers and possible make-up day for students in the 2023-2024 Traditional School Year Calendar. Students will engage in learning experiences and complete work asynchronously at home. Your child's teacher will provide you with information regarding what this will look like for your child.

Testing Update Testing Update

Students in grades 3 to 5 will take the MCAP assessments in April. The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) provides information to educators, parents, and the public on student progress towards proficiency on the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards. Please refer to grade level newsletters for specific dates and times of testing. If you can avoid appointments during these times, it would be greatly appreciated.

April 25th: Community Conversation at FVES April 25th: Community Conversation at FVES

zoom_out_map

Please join us at FVES in the All Purpose Room to engage in a community conversation about creating and nurturing an inclusive environment for all at Flower Valley. Changes to some of the long held traditions at FVES have created an opportunity for us to explore ways to be more inclusive of all students and families in our community. During the community conversation, we will discuss how our demographics have changed over the past decade as well as collaborate about how Flower Valley traditions can continue to nurture an inclusive environment for all of our students and families. Our partners in the MCPS Equity Office will be joining us for this important conversation. We will also have interpreters present for the evening.

Kindergarten Enrollment Kindergarten Enrollment

Kindergarten enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year will open March 18th. Details regarding the process can be accessed here. MCPS is not setting aside time from the school day for kindergarten orientation this year; however, Flower Valley will be providing multiple opportunities for school tours,. We will also host an information evening where families can visit the kindergarten classes and meet all of the teachers prior to the start of school. We will be reaching out to families of incoming kindergarteners enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year later in the spring to provide details about school tours, kindergarten play dates, and the kindergarten information night event.
