We are so excited to welcome you to the 2026-2027 school year! This newsletter includes basic information about back to school and items that you can complete now to help the year start smoothly. Please reach out with any questions that you may have. We can't wait to see you at the School Skate Night (a family event) and the Meet the Teacher/Open House night.

Teacher letters will be mailed home by the end of next week! A supply list is included. Open House is a great time to drop off school supplies. All of our teachers are fabulous and we can't wait for your child(ren) to join them!

Welcome Back! We are excited to meet you at the Open House. Check out the QR code below to join the PTA and pre-order. Be watching for Young spirit wear for this year. We will have Volunteer Surveys at the open house for you to complete. Let us know how you can help this year!

The PTA is hosting a specials event for our future Kindergarten students. Check out the Popsicles on the Playground information.

A new school year comes with things to do to get prepared. Please help by doing these things before school starts.

• Purchase School Supplies at local stores. Please follow the school supply chart. Some of the local vendors have incorrect lists for local schools. If you need assistance with school supplies, contact our school counselor, Mrs. Nelson (anelson3@sdale.org) or Mrs. Hannah (hannah.hiemstra@sdale.org).
• Parents will receive emails from PowerSchool Enrollment to update an online registration AND sign the AUA technology from. Please look for this email and complete this ASAP.
• Technology insurance can be purchased online.
• Be watching for a letter to arrive in the mail (end of July/early August). This will include your child(ren)'s teacher, room number, supply list and information for open house.
• Bring school supplies to Open House. See the Save The Date above. We will have our open house on one day this year, Wednesday, August 5th. Times are suggested for better access to the school and classroom teachers:

  A-H 4:00-4:30

  I-O 4:45-5:15

  P-Z 5:30-6:00

• Contact Mrs. Stephanie, registrar, at smounce@sdale.org if your address has changed. Students will find out who their teacher is through a mailed letter.
• Sign-up for email newsletter and school text (see buttons above). ALL important information will be sent this way. The weekly newsletter is our primary form of communication.
• Be sure to follow us on Facebook (Bernice Young Elementary School) and Instagram (youngyellowjackets) for up-to-date information.

We are excited to offer families the opportunity to celebrate their child’s birthday by displaying a Happy Birthday on our outdoor digital sign!

• The happy birthday will be displayed during your child’s birthday week for $10. Complete the digital form AND then pay and the Happy Birthday message will be displayed.

• The earlier, the better! Sign up now and we'll have your child's name on the calendar & their Happy Birthday message ready to go.

• We are not here over long breaks or on the weekend. Please enter birthdays in advance if you want them displayed on your child's special day.

• Please note: Birthday treats may NOT be brought to school to share with classmates. We invite families to celebrate their child with a birthday message on our outdoor digital sign instead!

A parent can deny permission for any of the following scenarios:

• Video taping of student
• Publication of a student’s written and/or art work within a school, on a school website, or on media outlets
• Use of a student’s first name
• Use of a student’s picture
• Access to computers and the use of internet for instructional purposes
