Principal's Message Principal's Message

September is here, and with it comes the joy of seeing our students settle into routines, grow in confidence, and shine both inside and outside the classroom. I am so proud of the hard work our students and staff have already put into making this school year a strong start.

This month, we are focusing on building strong school-home partnerships. When families and schools work together, children thrive. Whether it’s making sure your child is at school each day, reading together at home, or encouraging them to do their best, your involvement makes a powerful difference.

We are also looking forward to upcoming events that give us the chance to connect as a school community. I encourage you to join us whenever you can—your presence and participation show our students that their education is important and celebrated.

Thank you for entrusting us with your children. Let’s continue to work hand in hand to make this a wonderful year of learning and growth.

SchoolStore

We started a SchoolStore program to help our school raise money. A lanyard with information explaining how the program works will be sent home with your student. Your student will earn a participation prize when they return the filled-out lanyard to school, and they can earn more great prizes when your family and friends help our school raise money. So don't forget to send the filled-out lanyard back to school, and thanks for your support.

Character Word for September is RESPECT!

What is Respect? Respect is a lot of things. It is an attitude, an action, and a way of life. It is showing appreciation for what is good in people, a positive response to living with ourselves and others. IT is NOT hurtful, mean, cruel or destructive in any way.

It is building up, rather than tearing down.

September 2025: HELLO Week

Wylie Elementary, along with all HISD campuses, will be celebrating HELLO Week September 15 -19th. WES has a fun week prepared with dress-up days and community members such as the fire and police departments. HISD Administrators will also be on hand to meet and greet our students and staff as they enter the building. HELLO Week is a national event created by Sandy Hook Promise after the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012. HELLO Week encourages youth of all ages to create a culture of inclusion and belonging. The initiative encourages students to make social connections and become more empathetic towards others thus reducing bullying and feelings of isolation.

September 2025: ATTENDANCE Awareness Month

Wylie Elementary will be participating in Attendance Awareness month throughout the month of September. Our attendance goal at WES is 96% for the month of September and we need your help. Please make sure your children or grandchildren are at school, on time, ready to learn each day. If you are having trouble getting your child to attend, please reach out to one of the counselors here on campus. We are more than willing to work with you and your child to make sure they have a successful school year!

Attendance Incentive Plan for 2025 – 2026

Daily – Each classroom will compete with other classrooms in that grade. Each day the

highest percentage of attendance will have a sign placed on their door, giving that

classroom bragging rights for the day. In case of a tie, the class with the fewest tardies will

win for that day.

Weekly – Classrooms will also compete weekly within their grade level for the best weekly

attendance. The classroom with the best attendance for the week, calculated on Friday,

will keep a trophy in their classroom the following week. The weekly winning classroom will

be posted on the bulletin board near the cafeteria for all students, staff, and visitors to

view.

Monthly – Classroom monthly winners in each grade with the best overall attendance, best percentage of attendance and fewest tardies, will be awarded a classroom incentive. Listed below are the incentives planned for each month (subject to change as needed).

September – “Sock it to Attendance” – No shoes in the classroom

October – “Flashlight Fingers” Reading – finger flashlight afternoon reading

November – “Dinner and a Movie” – Lunch and movie in classroom with teacher

December – “Burrrr it’s Cold in Here” – Hot Chocolate and a cookies

January – “Keeping a Lid on Attendance” – Hat day with Tattoo’s

February – “I DONUT miss School” – Donuts in the classroom

March – “I Slept in but I’m Here” – PJ Day

April - “Today I Feel Silly” – Silly String the Teacher

End of the year – At the end of the year, students in each grade who have zero absences

will have his/her name entered into a drawing for a new bike or scooter (to be determined).

Also, the parents/guardians of the winning students will win a gift card.

Let us make sure our students get a jump on good attendance habits. September

Awareness Month is the perfect way to encourage this habit.
