WHAT WE LEARNED IN MATH:

This week in Math students learned various strategies to solve addition and subtraction sentences with unknow parts.

Our focus standards were The following:

1.CA.1 Fluently add and subtract within 20. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten; decomposing a number leading to a 10; using the relationship between addition and subtraction; and creating equivalent but easier or known sums. Model using objects and drawings and write corresponding equations. Model the role of 0 and the meaning of the equal sign. (E)

WHAT WE WORKED ON IN READING COMPREHENSION

The Students continued to discuss Jonny Appleseed, by Steven Kellogg. They used key details from the story to write their own stories about Johnny Appleseed. Students also used various arts integration strategies to enhance their learning

FOCUS STANDARDS WE COVERED IN READING COMPREHENSION

1.RC.1 Ask and answer questions about the main idea and key details to clarify and confirm understanding of a text. (E) Focus on questions right there in the text. Use questions that use inferencing in a class discussion and teacher modeling format.

1.RC.5 Identify the basic characteristics of familiar narrative text genres (e.g., fairy tales, nursery rhymes, storybooks) Focus on character and setting, and plot/events.

1.RC.6 Retell main ideas and key details of a text. (E)

.WHAT WE LEARNED IN FUNDATIONS AND HEGGERTY

  • In Heggerty week 10 students worked on rhyming words, beginning, middle, and ending sounds and segmenting phonemes of CVC words. In Fundations students completed in Unit 4 week 2.They focused on bonus letter spelling rule: FF, ll, ss, and sometimes zz. They continued to work with the glued sound "all". They wrote dictated sounds, words and sentences. Students were assessed over what they learned in unit 4.
  • Our focus standards were The following:

Phonological Awareness

1.RF.2

Blend sounds, including consonant blends, to produce single- and multi-syllable words. (E)

1.RF.3

Identify and produce beginning, middle (medial), and final sounds in single-syllable words. (E)

1.RF.4

Segment individual phonemes in one-syllable words. (E)

Phonics:

1.RF.5

Use letter-sound knowledge of single consonants (hard and soft sounds), short and long vowels, consonant blends and digraphs, vowel teams (e.g., ai) and digraphs, and r-controlled vowels to decode phonetically regular words (e.g., cat, go, black, boat, her), independent of context. (E)

1.RF.6

Decode one-syllable words in the major syllable types (CVC, CVr, V, VV, VCe), independent of context. (E)

Print Concept

K.RF.3

Identify and name all uppercase (capital) and lowercase letters of the alphabet. (E)
