Week of August 17th- August 22nd

My name is Bethany Geist. I am the new Learning Specialist and Athletic Director at Ridgway Secondary School! This will be my 8th year in education. My husband and I moved to the area this summer from the Front Range. I taught MS English for 5 years at Fountain Middle School and 8th-9th Grade English in Woodland Park for two years. I was the head cross country coach for two years in Woodland Park. I have also coached soccer for 2 years and track for 5 years. I am very excited to have the opportunity to serve as the new AD at Ridgway and get to know the community! We will be charging gate fees again this year. There is also an option to buy a season pass, which you can do at the door. We accept cash or Venmo, there will be a QR code available at the door. The fees are as follows:

Adults - $5

Seniors (65+) - $3

Students - Free

Season pass (good for the whole year)- $100

If your athlete is participating in a game that you or a loved one are unable to attend, we are streaming games live. There is a subscription price of $11.99 a month. Here is the link.

If you have not paid fees please do so ASAP so that your athlete can continue to participate in their sport. HS fees are $100 per sport and MS is $75. Please contact me for multi-athlete family rates or free/reduced lunch rates.

We have noticed an increased number of people using our facilities without permission from the school. Due to liability reasons, we ask that if you would like to use any indoor school facilities (gym or climbing wall) please reach out to our principal Mr. Randolph (rrandolph@ridgway.k12.co.us). Please do not come after hours to use the facilities without reserving them.

Any outdoor facilities (soccer field or track) are free for the public to use. You do not need to reserve those areas.

Next Week

Practices will be Monday-Thursday, 4:00–6:00 PM.

Our first regular-season game is Friday, August 21st at 4:00 PM. This will be a home game against Cortez.

We will also have a short parent meeting on Wednesday, August 19th at 6:00 PM, immediately following practice, in the RSS Commons.

First game is Saturday August 22nd. It will be a Tri Tournament against Norwood and Crested Butte hosted at Ridgway. Games begin at 10am.

The order of the games are as follows:

Norwood vs. Ridgway

Crested Butte vs. Norwood

Ridgway vs. Crested Butte

We are excited to welcome Sierrah Smith to the Ridgway Athletics team! Sierra will be coaching the MS Volleyball team. This is her first time coaching, but she started the Volleyball league here in town! She has a passion for Volleyball and working with kids! Welcome to the team!

The first game is Saturday August 22nd. They will be traveling to Dolores. The bus will leave at 8:15, but the game begins at 11. There will be only one game.

HUGE congratulations to Orion Catron for his win at the Mt. Sneffles Half this past weekend.

The first meet will be Saturday August 22nd. The MS and HS teams will be traveling to Grand Junction and racing at Las Colonias Park. The bus leaves at 5:30 am.

The following is the order of events:

8:30am - Boys Varsity 5K

8:35am - Girls Varsity 5K

9:00am - Boys JV/Open 2.5K

9:05am - Girls JV/Open 2.5K

9:30am - Middle School 2.5K

UNIFORMS

We will issue uniforms on Monday and Tuesday. The school will provide all runners with a uniform top. Our policy is that kids can provide their own shorts if they want, or borrow from the school. HS kids must wear matching shorts; the team has decided to wear black shorts. More detailed rules are HERE. Rules for MS are more relaxed: dark (black) is ideal.
