Update from Principal Jen Kravitz
December 1, 2023
Dear Mary Hogan Families,
It has been such a great first week back from break! The 4th grade climbing unit began, buddy classrooms met, student council began meeting, we had math and inquiry night, and more! One of the highlights for me of this week was the clear student leadership on display this week. We started the week with a 4th grader speaking at our faculty and staff meeting about why he believes we should fly the Black Lives Matter flag at Mary Hogan. Student council met and provided Miss Tricia with feedback on a winter reading challenge. And then the 4th and 5th grade students were amazing leaders at Math and Inquiry Night, teaching math games to everyone as well as serving and cleaning up from the dinner. How lucky we are to have such amazing students!
Be well,
Jen

December Update from PE
As the weather turns colder, things are really beginning to heat up in P.E. Our 5th graders finished up the climbing wall and 4th will begin to climb in December. In November, we spent some quality time working on jumping and jumping rope in grades K-3 and also bouncing and catching in 1st and 2nd. We’ve had many students make our Kangaroo club (jumping for 1 minute and/or 3 minutes without making a mistake). Students learn many short rope skills and tricks as well as long rope skills and jumping games. It’s a fun unit to teach, and one that students look forward to each year. In December, our 3rd graders are focusing on basketball, 1st and 2nd grade is tumbling, and K is focusing on scooter skills.

Helpful Family Resource about Screens and Technology
The Screenagers YouTube Channel has a range of new content and resources each week, such as movie clips, podcasts, and other original content. Screenagers Bites! are short videos for adults to watch. They are produced by doctors and psychologists. The topics include "How to Help Youth Manage Their Media Intake," "Don't Let Screens Split Up the Family," and more! The videos are less than 7 minutes long and might give you new insight into how your children are impacted by screens. Check it out!
