Students have chosen their own topics and will create a Google Slide Presentation with factual information, images and a short video clip. They will also design and build a 3D model representation of their topic. The model can be created with items found around the house such as cardboard, clay, aluminum foil, straws, lollipop sticks, toothpicks, bottle caps, yarn, etc. They can bring these items to class, and I will allow class time for them to build their models. Store bought kits should not be purchased for this project. This is a class project, but the students are encouraged to gather and bring in building materials for their projects. Their projects will be due Thursday, Novemeber 16. I encourage you to ask your child about their project and the progress that they are making in class to complete it.
Social Studies: European Exploration - We will explore what the European explorers took to and from the New World during the Age of Exploration.
Science: In class, we will study the conservation of matter which is the idea that regardless of the type of change that occurs when heating, cooling, or mixing substances, the total weight (amount of matter) is conserved.
In the science lab, students will continue to study Stars and the Solar System. This week they will explore why the Moon seems to change shape (phases) over the course of a month. In the lab, students will use a styrogfoam ball as a model of the Moon and a flashlight as a model of the Sun to gain a better understanding of how the interactions between the Sun and the Moon are responsible for the Moon's phases.
