Key Fair Book Updates
The Fair Book is live on our website, please reference this for each of your projects this year. You can either utilize the web version or print a pdf copy of the entire or part of the fair book.
Here are a few key changes that you should check out in the fair book:
- GOATS: NECK CHAINS & HALTERS - Goats are to be shown with either a halter, smooth neck chain, smooth or pronged collars only.
- SWINE: All market classes will be divided by weight. Minimum weight for market class is 230 lbs. Maximum is 320 lbs. Animals not meeting the weight requirements will be shown in premarket or overweight class. These animals will not be allowed to compete for champion, nor will the animal be allowed to sell. NO re-weighs will be allowed.
General Livestock Rules:
- All livestock exhibiting areas must be cleaned by exhibitors at least twice daily.
- If it is observed by the superintendents that a livestock pen has not been maintained to the expected standard, the superintendent will notify the exhibitor with a documented notice. Acknowledgement of the notice will be signed by the exhibitor, a parent or guardian of the exhibitor, a superintendent of that species, and a member of the 4-H Council. If an exhibitor is issued three notices for a species, they will lose the privilege to sell that species at the current Cheyenne County Fair. This disqualification will supersede the requirements for a Grand or Reserve Grand Champion animal.
- All livestock exhibitors must supply their own feed, hay, grain and bedding. Bedding must be approved wood shavings.
Pre-Fair entry forms are DUE to the office by 5:00 pm on MONDAY, JULY 7TH
Herdsmanship
This year there will be stricter enforcement of "herdsmanship" in the livestock pen areas. It has been added to the 4-H Fair book that all participants will be responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly area for their livestock. If the area of your livestock pen is not up to standard, see below, the superintendents of that species will notify you with a documented notice. The notice will be presented for a signature from the participant, their parent, a superintendent of the species, and a 4-H Council member. If any participant collects three notices, they will lose the privilege to sell that species of livestock at the Cheyenne County Fair. This disqualification from the sale will supersede the requirements for a Grand and Reserve Champion Market Animal.
