Recognizing Excellence in Teaching, Bonnie Robbins Awarded the Education for Common Good Award 2025

The Education Department has presented Bonnie Robbins with its 2025 Education for the Common Good Award.

Each year, the department presents a local educator with the Education for the Common Good Award to honor their dedication to teaching, learning, and the broader community of educational professionals. Awardees are chosen because their ongoing work reflects three core values of the Education Department: being aware of the big picture, embracing theory and practice, and living in and modeling a spirit of inquiry.

This year, the Department selected Bonnie Robbins, Athletic Director at Brunswick Junior High School. As Athletic Director at Brunswick Junior High School, Robbins not only manages the school’s athletic programs but also creates various student-centered opportunities through initiatives such as her Community Outreach Class.

This information is being shared to provide safety guidance. The safety of our students is our top priority, and with the construction zone located near the Junior High and Harriet Beecher Stowe, we are working with Central Maine Power to ensure the Brunswick Schools community is informed about the work and when it will occur.

About the project: CMP is investing in transmission line upgrades to strengthen the grid and continue providing our customers with safe, reliable service. This is especially important as Maine experiences stronger, more frequent storms. Section 31 is a five-mile radial line, which means it’s the source of electricity for approximately 8,000 customers in Brunswick, Topsham, and Harpswell. It runs from Topsham Substation near Crooker Construction in Topsham to Brunswick West Substation off Barrows Street in Brunswick. Please see the attached presentation that shows the line’s path.

In 2018, CMP began planning for the rebuild of Section 31 due to its age plus the number of outages affecting customers served from this transmission line. The Section 31 transmission line underwent a multi-year regulatory review prior to CMP receiving project approval in 2025. On November 4, 2025 the following presentation was shared with the Brunswick Town Council.
