We Salute Our Veterans!

Dear BES Families,

Tomorrow is our Veterans Day Concert day. Please note that 5th grade performs with the middle and high school students at 10am. The 3rd and 4th graders will perform at 1pm, along with RES students. We would like all students to wear our country's colors of red, white, or blue - or all three! At the 1pm program, students will be sat in grade order, left to right. Third and fourth grade are on the far right. Also, check out our Facebook page as we will be saluting Veterans near and dear to our hearts at BES all day!

On Tuesday, we will be able to watch a Supreme Court case right here in Louisburg! See the information below.

On November 14th, our school is honoring the bravery of Ruby Bridges. Please see the message below regarding the events on this day. We would like all students to wear purple on this day - Ruby's favorite color!

Thank you to all our volunteers this past week who helped with our Book Fair! It was a HUGE success, because of you! Miss McDaniel did an incredible job and we are so grateful for all of her hard work in organizing!

Have a great week!

The Kansas Supreme Court will visit Louisburg High School Tuesday, November 12, to hear oral argument in one case.

Students and parents who attend this special evening session will get to watch the Supreme Court in action as it hears an actual Kansas case involving real questions of law. It’s a way to learn about the court and the judicial branch of government.

The Supreme Court will be in session from 6:30 p.m. to about 7:15 p.m. Afterward, Supreme Court justices will meet with the public in an informal reception.

More information about this event is on the Supreme Court travel docket webpage. The page includes a summary of the case to be heard, the questions before the court, and briefs filed by attorneys for the parties.

Please join us November 12 for this rare opportunity to learn about our state’s highest court and meet its seven justices.

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day

Our school is participating in the Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on November 14th. The day honors Ruby Bridges, the first African American child to attend an all-white elementary school in Louisiana. Also on this day, Ms. Bridges will be speaking to students in Topeka and BES was selected to watch a live stream of her speech, along with other speakers and performances.

On that day, we will be participating in a morning walk-to-school activity, a solemn march around our campus in honor of Ruby Bridges, and the classrooms will be watching Disney’s Ruby Bridges Movie. This movie is rated PG and will be watched in classrooms with teachers to discuss the content as they are watching it. There is some language and scenes that are uncomfortable and could be upsetting. As a school, we feel our students need to understand the heaviness behind the words and actions in those scenes. We do hear this upsetting language from our students. While we do not tolerate it, this movie gives a more relatable opportunity for our kids to understand why it is not acceptable and how hurtful it truly is. This is a great time to watch the movie with your family, and discuss the historical events of that time. We do want to give families the option of opting their child out of watching and discussing this movie. Please see the form below to do so. Any students that will not be watching will be in the library during the movie.

Thank you to our Building Leadership Team and our Site Council parents and staff for their guidance in planning for this day.

Seasonal Support Newsletter

Believe it or not, cold weather and the holiday season are fast approaching. We wanted to share with you some free resources for winter coats, Thanksgiving meal baskets and Christmas gifts (Christmas gift program is for Louisburg children birth to 18). There are deadlines to each that, again, as far away as they seem, will be here in no time. The added expense of winter coats and holiday costs can be a heavy burden. If your family could benefit from a little extra support to ease that burden, then we hope these resources will do just that! Please see our newsletter to learn about some wonderful resources! In November we will be focusing on the mindset, Attitude of Gratitude, which focuses on seeking the positives from every experience and being thankful for all you have. We will be talking about treasuring yourself, being more grateful, thanking it forward and elevating your perspective. We will be showing our gratitude to local senior citizens by inviting them to 'An Afternoon of Gratitude' where we will share our time, talents and afternoon treats with them.

Attendance and School Calendars Attendance and School Calendars

Receive an Attendance Email from School?

If you receive an attendance letter from school, it is meant to inform you of your student's absences or tardies. This way you can also keep track of the days gone and how to plan ahead to

miss fewer days.

Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.

Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!

If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.

GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!
