It's a Great Week to be a Cavalier!😉

Happy Sunday Cavalier Families!

I hope this message finds you well and that you've had a great week!

As we move forward through the final weeks of the school year, I want to express my appreciation for

your ongoing support and encouragement of our students.

This month, our school-wide focus is on integrity—doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. We are reminding students that integrity builds trust, strengthens relationships, and sets the foundation for personal and academic success. Whether it’s being honest on assignments, treating others with respect, or owning up to mistakes, these moments define character. We encourage you to talk with your child about what integrity looks like at home and in everyday life. These conversations, paired with the examples we’re reinforcing at school, help our students grow into responsible, ethical leaders. Together, we’re helping students build strong values that will last a lifetime.

Thank you for your flexibility last week when the weather required us to shelter-in-place and the following day when we had an early release. We are grateful that all of our students, staff, and families stayed safe!

We will continue to follow the no backpack policy for the rest of the year. Students who bring bags will need to surrender them at the door and they will need to be picked up by a parent. Athletes will be dropping their bags off at the athletic hallway door (coaches will brief them on the expectations) and music students will continue to drop instruments off at the band hall or orchestra portable. All bags that are dropped off will be searched. Students must have their phones in YONDR pouches. If students do not have their phones secured in their YONDR pouch, the phone will need to picked up by an adult. We have issued every student a YONDR pouch and therefore, they should be using them. Please help your student find their pouch if they have misplaced it. The graphic below explains the policy for bags starting on May 1st.

Thank you for being a vital part of our community! We are looking forward to a Cav-tastic week with your students!

Counselors' Corner Counselors' Corner

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of emotional and psychological well-being for individuals and families. Mental health impacts how we think, feel, and act—especially during stressful times. For parents, supporting their family's mental health helps build strong, resilient children who can better manage emotions and relationships. Early awareness and support can prevent more serious issues down the road. Prioritizing mental health creates a positive, safe environment where families can thrive together.

Ways parents can support their family's mental health:

  • Create open spaces for kids to talk about feelings without judgment

  • Stick to consistent routines for structure and security

  • Practice mindfulness or relaxation techniques as a family

  • Limit screen time and encourage outdoor play or exercise

  • Model healthy coping skills and self-care habits

Helpful mental health resources:

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline – Call or text 988 for 24/7 free, confidential support

  • National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – nami.org offers education, support groups, and resources

  • MentalHealth.gov – Information and tools for families and individuals

  • Child Mind Institute – childmind.org provides guidance specifically for children's mental health

  • Local school counselors and pediatricians – Trusted first points of contact for concerns or referrals. If you ever have questions about mental health resources, please reach out to any of our counselors for support & community resources/referrals.

E-cigarettes/Cigarettes

Students will be assigned one day of ISS and one day of Saturday School. Secondary Students will attend at their home campuses (the curriculum will be provided for all students who attend for cigarette/e-cigarette violations).

2nd Offense Violation:

A due process hearing will be held with a recommendation for DAEP placement for 20 days.

Consequences for School Bus Violations:

For school bus safety violations, and for serious violations, as defined in this document, that happen on the bus, the 3rd bus offense shall invoke at least a temporary removal (possibly a permanent removal), and the 4th offense will invoke a bus suspension for the rest of the school year. For students attending a DAEP, the 2nd bus offense will result in permanent bus suspension for the time the student is placed in DAEP; any flagrant bus offense prior to the 2nd violation may result in immediate bus suspension. Students who fight on the bus will be suspended for three days. If after a thorough investigation, fighting is confirmed, then the students involved will be removed from the bus for 30 school days. Under severe circumstances the Director for Transportation Services reserves the right to implement temporary or permanent bus suspension at a date earlier than prescribed by this regulation.
