SUN SHOWCASE & PI NIGHT, Thursday 3/12 SUN SHOWCASE & PI NIGHT, Thursday 3/12

Dear LMS Families,

SUN Showcase and Pi Night was a success! It was damp as the atmospheric river was still overhead, and we were all still recovering from the time change, so it was not as well attended as it has been in years past, but we had a good time. SUN Dance students kicked us off with an incredible performance, and the film students showed their short film as well - our students are so talented! We had pizza, pie, and lots of games - the night would not have been complete without getting the traditional pie in my face alongside Mr. Ramos, Ms. Sullivan, and Ms. Szabo. Can't wait for next year!

There is no SUN programming this week as we celebrated the end of winter session last week. Please take some time to review the flyer below and sign up for Spring Session! I'll be helping to coach flag football so please encourage your student to sign up for this emerging sport. I'm very proud of the robust programming offered at our school site - a huge thank you to Chelsea and Will for all they do to create engaging activities for our students.

Our band and choir will be showing off their skills this Wednesday during our spring concert, led by Mr. Colton Byers. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the performance begins promptly at 6 p.m. Students who wish to attend the performance to watch must be accompanied by an adult.

This week is spirit week! Friday we will have an activity hour that includes a school dance hosted by our WEB Leaders. Spirit Week themes are:

Monday: Jet Lag Day (dress like you are tired)

Tuesday: Decades Day (from ANY decade - 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, Y2K, and more!)

Wednesday: Character Day (Any character from a book, movie, or pop culture)

Thursday: Multiples Day (dress alike with your friends)

Friday: Spring Day (bright colors and flowers - anything related to spring time!)

Let's have a great week!

Warmly,

Rosemarie El Youssef

LMS Principal

Thank you Trailblazers!

Last Tuesday we took 100 of our 8th graders to the Moda Center to watch the Blazers take on the Charlotte Hornets. Although the Blazers didn't get the win, we feel like we did - what a wonderful group of kids we had the chance to make memories with.

OBOB Update from Ms. Raspone OBOB Update from Ms. Raspone

Recently, LMS hosted the school based rounds of the Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) competition. Students read an assortment of up to 16 books either on their own or as a part of the SUN OBOB afterschool program, coached by Michelle Jasso. Rain Rising (Riley J., Annabeth M., JT, and Dunnavan N., plus Jaxon D.) won the Lane battles and participated in the PPS regional battles this weekend at Benson High School. After a strong showing in the first four battles of pool play, the team was seeded 12th heading into the Sweet Sixteen, where they lost to West Sylvan, a team that made it to the finals and will be representing PPS at the state competition. Congratulations to all the participants!

OSAS Testing Update OSAS Testing Update

OSAS end of year state testing is coming up in about one month! Please mark your family calendars for April 28-30 and May 5-7. It is really important that students are present and on time these days especially. Students who don't complete testing within this window will be pulled out of class for makeup testing in the following weeks.

If you would like to opt out of ELA and/or Math testing (all grades) or exempt them from science (8th grade- separate form!), please see the message below. Forms are due back to the main office by April 17.

Dear PPS families,

As required by the Oregon Department of Education, we are providing you with the 30 Day Notice and Opt Out Form for Statewide Assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics. The notice is available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian and Somali on the PPS Research, Assessment, and Accountability website. The opt-out form applies only to state assessments (OSAS) in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics. It does not apply to other district assessments.

Statewide testing is part of our balanced assessment system that offers all students, especially historically underserved students, opportunities to demonstrate their progress. Information provided by student assessments is critical in helping us determine district and school priorities for improving student learning.

If you have questions, please contact your school office.

Thank you,

PPS Research, Assessment, and Accountability Department

๐Ÿ“ฃ SUPPORT THE LMS STUDENT STORE

At Lane Middle School, our reward system celebrates students who take initiative and live out our core values of being accountable, safe, and kind. When students demonstrate responsibility for their learning and actions, make choices that contribute to a safe and respectful environment, or go out of their way to show kindness to others, they earn โ€œkeysโ€ as recognition for their positive impact. These keys serve as both encouragement and a tangible reminder that their actions matter. Students can save and spend their keys at our student store, choosing from a variety of fun and motivating items. This system not only reinforces positive behavior but also builds a school culture where accountability, safety, and kindness are seen, valued, and rewarded every day.

If you would like to help motivate our students and keep the school store stocked, you can find our Amazon Wish List at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/VY1AQGAOY394?type=wishlist
