MS 50 Updates: Week of November 6, 2023
Parent-Teacher Conferences Thursday!
Virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences are next week Thursday, November 9th, from 1:00-3:00PM and 5:00-8:00PM. You do not need to make an appointment! This year all the Zoom links to meet with your student's teachers will be available at ms50.org/ptc. You can come to either the morning or afternoon conferences and meet with any of your student's teachers. Your student's report card can be accessed through your NYC Schools Account. Grades will also be distributed via Operoo and in the mail. Grade reports on Operoo are a summary only, the full report card will be available on your NYC Schools Account and in the mailed copy. Your student’s teachers will have a copy they can share with you as well.
Mr. Honoroff and Ms. Sostre will also be hosting high school application workshops from 3:00-4:00PM and 8:00-9:00PM. The link to these meetings will also be at ms50.org/ptc.

Classroom Spotlight: Debate
Debate Tournament Saturday 11/18
Our first Saturday debate tournament of the year is coming up next week Saturday, November 18! We will meet at MS 50 at 7AM to take busses up to IN-Tech Academy in the Bronx. This fall, our students are debating the resolution: Should school districts offer financial incentives for performance in school for K-12 students in the US? Ask your debater what evidence they have learned about this interesting topic! Debate families, check Operoo later this week for a permission slip with additional information.
Parent Judges Needed
We are expecting our largest debate team ever and that means we need to have more judges than ever before! Volunteering to judge is a great way to learn more about debate and see young people from across the city engage with each other in a unique, exciting format. You will be trained prior to your first debate and a catered lunch and breakfast is provided. Interested in helping? Sign up at ms50.org/judge
Community Cultural Potluck
Join us for a cultural potluck event! The El Puente team is excited to invite you to save the date for a Cultural Potluck event on November 15th from 6PM to 8PM. Donations are welcome and appreciated! Beacon members will kick things off with singing and dancing from 6:10PM to 6:15PM. See you there for a night of food, fun, and community! Check out the flyer and RSVP at the link below.

i-Ready Homework Reminder
One of our goals this year is for every student at MS 50 to complete 30 minutes of i-Ready ELA lessons and 30 minutes of i-Ready math lessons as part of their homework every week. Teachers will check the previous week’s work every Monday. Students can use their @nycstudents account to log into i-Ready by visiting clever.com.
If logging in on an iPad, you must first download and login to the Clever app. You can then launch i-Ready from Clever and students will be logged in. Download this information sheet for more detailed instructions.
