BELIEVE, ENJOY, ACHIEVE

'Overthorpe is more than a school-

We are the heart of the community.

In our family, we nurture the courage,

And skills to fly higher than the flock,

Whilst always providing a nest,

To come home to.'

TRUST, FRIENDSHIP, ENDURANCE, FORGIVENESS, HOPE

Headteacher's comment Headteacher's comment

What a super last week of the half term! We have had netball festivals, trips to art galleries and community singing events, all alongside our ususual learning activities within the school building. We ended the week with our Celebration Worship and attendance awards. Our attendance award winners can be found below.

After the half term break, we have ukelele lessons and road safety assemblies (led by Kirklees) to look forward to.

I wish each and every one of you a terrific half term break (even if the weather is not forecast to be great!)

See you all in a week's time.

Mr Mitchell

Introducing Teddy

In this week’s collective worship, we shared the gentle and thought-provoking picture book Introducing Teddy by Jessica Walton and Dougal MacPherson. The story follows Errol and his much-loved teddy, Thomas, who bravely shares that in her heart she has always known she is a girl teddy and would like to be called Tilly. Errol’s response is simple and powerful: what truly matters is their friendship. Through this tender story, children are invited to reflect on the importance of honesty, courage and unconditional acceptance. From a Christian perspective, we explored how Jesus consistently showed love, compassion and dignity to every person he met. As a Church of England school, our vision calls us to nurture a community where everyone feels they belong — a place of knowledge, character and faith to come home to. Engaging with stories like this helps children understand that each person is wonderfully made, deserving of kindness and respect. We approach these conversations in an age-appropriate and sensitive way, ensuring all children feel safe, valued and comfortable in who they are, while also preparing them to live well in a diverse and changing world beyond Overthorpe.

Developing Spirituality

Here are two questions you can discuss with your child at home linked to this week's worship text.

1. Why is it sometimes hard to be brave and honest about who we are?

2. How does love and kindness help people feel safe?

Ambassador Awards Ambassador Awards

This week, our Senior Pupil Representatives took the time to thank and celebrate our wonderful Pupil Ambassadors for this half-term, who have so selflessly given their time to help our school run smoothly. Whether supporting worship, helping younger children, or assisting at events, they have quietly demonstrated our Christian values through their commitment, responsibility and service to others. We are incredibly proud of the maturity and care they show each day. At Overthorpe, we work hard to nurture not only academic success but the growth of kind, thoughtful and courageous young people, and these children truly reflect the good human beings we strive to develop within our school family.
