The Howler Vol. 4

Greetings Grant Watts Community,

Next week, we look forward to our Annual Fun Run! We love to have people cheer on our runners, and teachers will communicate the schedule for each classroom’s start time. Please come through the office, sign in, and get a visitor’s sticker when you arrive. Thanks to Coach Cole and Coach Bruno for helping get our runners ready! Thanks also to our volunteers and SEPO for staffing this event for our school. Grant Watts loves our parent organization!

We love to support our High School and look forward each year to the Homecoming Parade coming to Grant Watts and Petersen. Please make sure to wear orange & black or Scappoose gear next Friday as we cheer on our student-athletes and club members. This culminates the optional spirit days to follow the Carnival de Scappoose theme next week as follows:

Monday: Class Colors (1st-RED, 2nd-BLUE, 3rd-GREEN, Support Staff-Yellow)

Tuesday: Blend in or Stand Out (Camo or Animal Print)

Wednesday: Picture Day Attire

Thursday: Vacation Day

Friday: Black & Orange Spirit Day

Greetings! I am Tami McDonald, the School Counselor at Grant Watts Elementary

and I am so excited to be starting another year-this will be an adventure for all of us!

I will be working to support our Grant Watts students with classroom guidance lessons, lunch-bunch, small groups, and counseling support services-more information to come.

PLEASE, if your child is experiencing significant challenges as we get the school year rolling, or any time of the year-

Feel free to call 971-200-8002-or email me tmcdonald@scappoose.k12.or.us.

Get ready for a fantastic day full of fun and fitness at our Fun Run event! We also need your help—volunteer by signing up here!

We are so excited for next week’s Fun Run! Remember to keep working on your pledges because this fundraiser supports essential school programs like field trips, assemblies, books, and more. Our school-wide goal is for each student to raise at least $50. Every student who reaches this target will earn a special prize! Pledges can be a fixed amount (e.g., $25) or based on laps completed (e.g., $1.00 per lap). We encourage students to ask family and friends for support—and to join you in this process for added fun!

Important Reminders for Next Friday:

• Please return the pledge envelopes (containing pledge commitments, not money) to your child's classroom teacher on the day of the event, October 3rd. Volunteers will record laps completed, and the envelopes will be returned for pledge collection.

• This event will take place rain or shine. Currently, the forecast looks good, but it’s always wise to pack an extra change of clothes, socks, and shoes in case of rain.

• Pledge donations are due by Friday, October 24th.

Thank you for supporting our school community—let’s make this Fun Run the best one yet!

We hope you can join us virtually at 7pm next Thursday, October 2nd for our next SEPO Monthly Meeting. It's a wonderful opportunity to stay informed, share ideas, and get involved in upcoming events—like our exciting Harvest Festival on October 25th!

We are so excited for our annual FREE fall community event that is open to all! Families are encouraged to join us in costume and enjoy a wide variety of carnival type experiences. From spider toss, to goblin bowling, to candy bar hop - it is sure to be a great time!
