Happy Friday, Shark Families!

We had a wonderful week at MAST celebrating Veterans Day with our special breakfast and our first annual Veterans Day Parade! It was such a meaningful event, and we are so thankful to honor those who have served.

This week, a group of our teachers traveled to the National Science Teachers Association Conference to present a first-grade project-based learning (PBL) unit that was recently published in Science and Children magazine! Another team attended the COGNIA Accreditation Conference, where they presented on our school’s STEM implementation and continuous improvement journey.

We are incredibly proud of our students and teachers for their hard work and dedication to excellence. Thank you for your continued partnership as we help every student reach their fullest potential before middle school!

Our School Counselor, Ms. Moore, planned a special breakfast to honor the veteran relatives of our students. The celebration concluded with a schoolwide clap-out and parade, as students and staff showed their appreciation for our honored guests.

We have some exciting news that may help our busy families with meeting our volunteer requirements. We are now offering a VIRTUAL VOLUNTEER TRAINING! Follow the steps in the attached file to be cleared to chaperone for field trips and other school events. Please note that MAST requires that all volunteers have a current background check through our Raptor system (information about how to order is in the attached document). Background checks are good for 3 calendar years. If you have any questions, please contact me at whitneymoore@pickens.k12.sc.us. We look forward to working with you this year!

Mathematician Terence Tao was gifted from an early age. At just 9 years old, Tao scored a 760 on the SATs and was able to take university-level math (for reference, anything over 700 was part of the John Hopkins’ Study of Excellence). He participated in tons of competitions and earned some awards for first place. Undergoing competitions and being around other kids who loved math assisted with his growth! It is important to be surrounded by inspiration, items, and people alike.
