Head of School Updates
March 18th, 2026
A Message from Mr. Bentley
Tomorrow, report cards will be sent home with our students to communicate academic progress from the second trimester K-12.
As always, I would like to encourage our families to take time to talk with your children about their progress so far this year and to set meaningful goals for the final trimester of the 2025–26 school year. Once the goals are established, it is equally important to develop a plan to achieve them. While this message may sound familiar, research consistently shows that goals without a clear plan are far less likely to be achieved.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions regarding report cards or academic progress.

Dress Code Reminder

Additionally, any layers or clothing worn inside the building must be uniform pieces featuring the SA logo.
Notes from the Nurse
Dear Parents and Guardians,
With the weather changing so frequently lately, we understand that it can be challenging to decide what students should wear each day.
We wanted to take a moment to remind you that students will continue to go outside for recess, environmental science, and other classes whenever conditions allow. Spending time outdoors is important for fresh air, movement, and overall well-being. Unless it is extremely cold, raining, or snowing, we make every effort to get students outside.
To help keep your child comfortable, please ensure they come to school dressed appropriately for the weather. This may include a warm coat, hat, gloves, and long pants on colder days. As the ground can sometimes be damp or muddy, please be aware that clothing and shoes may get a bit dirty during outdoor activities.
We appreciate your support in helping students be prepared for all types of weather so they can safely enjoy their time outside.

Community Movie Night at Sussex Academy: Childhood 2.0*
We cordially invite our families and community members to join Sussex Academy and Speak Out Against Hate for a special screening and discussion of the film Childhood 2.0 on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 6:30 PM.
Childhood 2.0 explores how smartphones, social media, and constant connectivity shape students’ lives. Through interviews with teens across the U.S., it highlights online pressures like social comparison, cyberbullying, gaming, and the impact on mental health and relationships. It offers insight into students’ digital experiences and encourages conversations about healthy technology use.
The film is not yet rated and might contain material inappropriate for children under 13. It includes sensitive topics such as mental health challenges, online harassment, and exposure to inappropriate content. Viewer discretion is advised, especially for younger audiences. This screening aims to spark dialogue on supporting students in the digital age.
To support families attending with younger children, Sussex Academy student volunteers will provide a supervised space and activities for younger students while parents and older children enjoy the screening. Please RSVP here or scan the QR Code on this flyer by April 10 to plan for accommodations and refreshments.

Disability Awareness Month
This March, we’ve been talking with students about Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month — debunking myths like “people with developmental disabilities are defined by their disability” and “fair means everyone gets the same thing.” Students are learning the facts: a disability is just one part of who someone is, and fair means giving each person what they need to succeed. Families are encouraged to continue these conversations at home, celebrating strengths, practicing kindness, and promoting inclusion every day!
Dress Down Day
$2 Dress down day on Friday. All proceeds will help support competition fees, materials, and enrichment opportunities for students involved in Math League.
