Thank you - Tri-County Animal Shelter Update
Hello MES Family!
I just wanted to pass on my thanks and appreciation for all the materials that were donated to the Tri-County Animal Shelter - I will be taking all of the items over next week - I'm sure they will be most appreciated! Also, it's not too late to send things in if you had extra items to donate.
In addition, we've had three families adopt 2 dogs and 2 cats and some barn cats from the Shelter - everyone is doing well and we are excited that they have a 'furever' home!!
Lastly, I'm showing the display at Leonardtown (Food Lion), so if you want to go see it, there's still time. I'll probably take that down next week too.
We have gotten so many wonderful comments and everyone who passed by to get a cart stopped to look at the various animals that our student artists drew and painted - in awe! They couldn't believe that 7- to 11-year-old students created such amazing likenesses!!
I was so pleased that 3 major goals were achieved. Obviously, we are tickled that our grocery store audiences were impressed, and a LOT of adoptions have been made - we hope that our students had a hand in some of those.
Another goal was to make aware that these animals needed help and that the hearts of our children are GREAT. Every week, my students ask who has been adopted and they cheer when they hear their animal isn't on the noticeboard anymore. This has been a wonderful way to teach and see empathy in our children.
Thirdly, our students are proud of their achievements and worked to do their best work, despite any disabilities or insecurities they may have had. Art is a wonderful way for students to not only learn about core subject areas and to work on fine motor and higher thinking skills but is so vital to our school curriculum in many ways.
I am so honored to be a part of teaching this amazing group of students!
