Principals' Letter

March 15, 2024

Dear MMS Students and Families,

It's hard to believe that we are midway through March and the warm weather and sunshine will be here before we know it. Our 2nd Trimester was celebrated on a high note with creative displays of learning, grade level awards assemblies, record participation in after school clubs and sports, and our musicians with their final preparations for upcoming concerts. It is an exciting time at MMS and we look forward to it continuing as we kick off the 3rd Trimester.

Second Trimester Progress Reports will be available today on ParentVUE and StudentVUE. Homeroom teachers will also soon be in contact about scheduling a spring conference. As always, please reach out if we can be of any support to you or your family. We thank you for your partnership and your support of MMS.

Best,

Mrs. Grantham, Principal

Mrs. Troiano, Assistant Principal

Creative Climate Solutions Summit

Today was the seventh grade Creative Climate Solutions Summit. It was a huge success, students have been working so hard on bringing their ideas to the table and their presentations today were evidence of all of their hard work! We are so grateful to the amazing teachers, Michelle Turner, Emily Dodge and Sophie Manning, for the work that they put into making today happen. It was amazing to see so many parents and loved ones come out in support of our student scientists!

Where is Lola?

Students in MMS Spanish classes found out that Lola, our "pollita" or "little chick" and friend of Pablo the Pollito, was missing from class. After reviewing pictures showing all the different places Lola had been seen in the school and with all the different staff members, students were asked to create a missing poster to help find her. In Spanish, they had to include the language Lola speaks (Spanish, of course), where they thought she was, with whom she was hiding, her physical description, and her personality as well as a photo and a "reward". Students then came on a scavenger hunt around the school, following notes Lola left for us in Spanish to help find her. Thanks to students' determination and understanding of Spanish, they were able to find her and bring her back to her friend Pablo.

Team Allagash Abenaki Studies Team Allagash Abenaki Studies

Team Allagash students took part in an interdisciplinary unit, Wabanaki Week, to learn about Maine Native Americans and the traditional game of snow snake. Students teamed up to study the history of the game, create haikus, make predictions, and decorate their snow snakes. They then put them to the test during our celebratory snow snake competition!
