Thank you for another great week in "The Nest." I will not send out a newsletter each week, only when information needs to be shared. Please note that we will not release students from the attendance office after 3:45 PM. We are ending the third week of instruction, and interim progress reports will be available to all parents via HAC. Please communicate with your child's teacher if they are missing assignments or struggling with any class. It is also vital that you monitor your child's attendance weekly. Please note that we have lunches 4th, 5th and 6th periods at Harlan. If you see absences during these periods and not the rest of the day, that is a strong indication that your student may be taking multiple lunches to socialize with friends who have different lunch periods. (We have ample seating, food, and time to feed all students during each lunch) Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and your student.

The end of the first three weeks is Friday, September 10, 2021. Progress Reports should be visible in HAC on Monday, September 13, 2021. Students and parents should log in to HAC to view the Interim Progress Report (IPR). Please refrain from using a 3rd party app because we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the grades. Once you login into HAC, please click on the grade icon and the IPR will appear.

In our never-ending quest to ensure student success, Harlan High School provides enrichment for students during the school day on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The "FLEX" program allows teachers to flag students who require help or enrichment to ensure that they are successful. If a student is flagged by a teacher during this period, it is mandatory that students attend that session with the teacher for extra help.

The Harlan football team defeated Laredo United last Friday night on a late field goal. The Hawks are now 1-1 on the season and take on Brennan this Saturday night. Not only are we proud of our athletes, but also the 400 other students who participate in our spirit, band, flags, athletic training, and AFJROTC programs at each contest. Participation in extracurricular activities is strong at Harlan High School.

PSAT and SAT School Day Exams to be given on Oct 13

On Wednesday, Oct. 13, the SAT School Day exam, a College Board assessment, is being administered at no cost to all 12th-grade students enrolled in NISD this school year.

On Wednesday, Oct. 13, the PSAT/NMSQT exam, a College Board assessment, will also be administered at no cost to all 10th and 11th-grade students enrolled in NISD this school year. The PSAT/NMSQT exam is the route of entry to the National Merit Scholarship Program for 11th-grade students.
