The Riverwalk Roar
July 19, 2026
A Note from Dr. Compton
Happy Sunday, Pride!
Last week, I mentioned that charter schools like Riverwalk are, in many ways, a small piece of the American experiment, built on the belief that when given the freedom to innovate, and the responsibility to prove it works, we can create something better for our kids.
That idea stuck with me, so I decided to expand it into a full op-ed. With America's 250th anniversary on the horizon, I found myself thinking a lot about the parallels between the founding of this country and the founding of the charter school movement. Both are experiments built on the same bet: that people closest to a problem, given freedom and held accountable for results, can govern and educate better than a distant authority ever could.
If you'd like to read the full piece, you can find it linked here.
With that reflection in mind, we're also gearing up for a big couple of weeks as we head toward the new school year. Here's what's on the horizon:
- July 22nd — Teachers return to prepare classrooms and get ready for an incredible year of project-based learning.
- July 28th — Meet the Teacher/Schedule Pick Up! Kindergarten through 5th grade families can connect with your child's teacher, drop off supplies, and get a first look at the classroom before the year begins. Sixth through twelfth grade families can pick up your child's schedule, and ninth graders can grab their #ClassOf2030 t-shirt. We'll also be hosting a 6th–12th grade open house on August 25th (details soon).
- July 30th — Students return, and we officially kick off the 2026–27 school year!
Don't forget to check out our Back to School page, where you'll find supply lists and other helpful information. We'll keep adding details there as we get closer to the first day, so be sure to check back often.
Here's to finishing the summer strong, and to a new year built on the same freedom and responsibility that make Riverwalk what it is.
In Pride and Purpose,
