2nd Grade Newsletter
September 28- October 3, 2026
Happy Fall, Families!
As we welcome the slightly cooler days and the beginning of fall, we have lots to celebrate in our classrooms! Thank you so much for all of your support and efforts with our Boosterthon fundraiser. Your encouragement and participation mean so much to our school and our students!
Tuesday, September 29th is Gold Out Day as we show our support for childhood cancer awareness. We would love to see our second graders wearing gold as we come together for this special day! 💛
A big thank-you also goes to all of you for listening to your second grader read to you and with you at home. We have begun our guided reading groups at school, and that extra reading practice at home makes such a wonderful difference. We appreciate all that you do to support your child's growing love of reading!
Parent-Teacher Conferences are soon getting underway. Check with your child's teacher about conference times.
Have a great weekend!

Announcements
Phonics Homework
Phonics practice can be found in your child's purple take home folder each Monday. This is an optional assignment but it reinforces learning and gives you an opportunity to hear from your child exactly what they have been learning.
Please be sure to bring a labeled water bottle and healthy snack daily.
Your student is now expected to type in their own username and password to log in to their Chromebook. Log in to Skyward to find their username and password and help them memorize it at home!
SAVE THE DATE: The 2nd Grade Music Performance is February 26 at 8:00am. More information will be sent out this semester.
LUNCH. . . PLEASE. . .
Send your student to school with their lunch in the morning! The lunch drop-offs have become frequent enough to disrupt routines and shorten student lunchtime. We ask that lunch drop-offs be saved for true emergencies only. We truly appreciate your help and understanding!

If you would like to allow your child to buy ice cream, please send them with a completed pink permission form on the day you would like them to buy it. The permission form can be found in their purple folder.
If at any point you need more forms, please contact your child's teacher.
Character Strong
Hello Our character trait for the next month is RESPONSIBILITY! Responsibility is doing the things you are supposed to do and accepting the results of ones actions.
Behavior Communication Chart
To document behavior second grade uses the Windsong Strong Conduct chart. This will be kept in your child's purple take home folder for the entire 9 weeks and they will be given a new one each 9 weeks. Please be sure to take a look at this daily and discuss any comments with your child. Please help your child to be responsible for bringing this to and from school each day.
At the top, you will see a calendar for the 1st 9 weeks. In this calendar we will fill out if a redirection was needed with an R - this is just to let you know that there were warnings given to get behavior back on track. If there is a C in the calendar your child's teacher had to give multiple warnings or a more severe behavior occurred. If you see a C, there will be comments explaining this behavior below - this is when a signature is required by parents. If nothing is written this means your child is demonstrating Windsong Strong behavior and setting a good example. You will also notice the Report Card Citizenship Grade codes at the bottom. This conduct chart will directly reflect the grade they receive on their report card.
Emergency Contacts
Please add emergency contacts to your Skyward profile for any neighbors/friends/extended family that could possibly ever pick up your students. You can add up to 4. These are required for pickup so add them as soon as possible!
Attendance
Attendance / Absence Information
