SVF Coral Adventure Virtual Reality Experience

Have you ever wanted to be a scientist studying coral reef fishes? Here is your chance! Marine biologist Randi Sims will come to your classroom with our Class VR virtual reality headsets (https://powerupedu.com/) and lead your class through this incredible underwater experience which takes you to the coral reefs of the Florida Keys to observe colorful and feisty reef fishes while sitting at your desk. This amazing and fun in-class active learning program is FREE to the first twenty classes (Oconee, Pickens, & Anderson Counties) that sign up (grades 3-5) thanks to a generous grant from SC Sea Grant Consortium. Click on this link to register your class or e-mail Randi directly at rsims@clemson.edu for more information. Program dates are January & February 2022.

SC Marine Educators Association Annual Meeting

The Something Very Fishy team attended the 2021 Annual Meeting of the SC Marine Educators Association at the SC Aquarium in Charleston, SC. Team leaders Randi Sims and Kea Payton made presentations about their citizen science and outreach projects. Kathy Prosser, Boss the Shark, and Sunny the Seal made an appearance with a lively rendition of "Something Very Fishy Going On". We had a lot of fun doing outreach training with the SC Aquarium staff and meeting other SC marine science educators. Students from our Conservation of Marine Resources (@clemsonmarineresearch) and Something Very Fishy Creative Inquiry teams participated in the training and conference events. Michael Childress (aka Dr. Sea) received an award as the 2021 SCMEA Educator of the Year. https://www.scmarineed.org/ https://scaquarium.org/
