A Couple of Quick Summer Reminders:

Math: All students entering 3rd grade should have their addition and subtraction facts up to 20 memorized. Multiplication facts 0, 1, 2, 5, 10 should also be memorized. The 3rd-grade math curriculum assumes that all facts have been mastered. Please see that your children spend a little time this summer practicing their facts to ensure their success next year. A little effort now (5-10 minutes a day) will go a long way in 3rd grade.

Reading: Don’t forget to have your children read a little each day. Did you know that students can lose as much as 2 months of what they gained in 2nd grade if they do not read over the summer? We know how hard they worked last year, and we don’t want to let all that hard work go to waste. So take a trip to the library and borrow some wonderful books. While you are there, ask the librarian if there are any summer reading programs they can sign up for.

Writing: Lastly, consider investing in a journal/diary. Have your children record all their thoughts, memories, and adventures from the summer. Not only will it help them with their writing skills, but they will have a wonderful written account of their “sunsational” summer to look back on for years to come. So run out to the dollar store and buy a summer journal and start writing.

Life Skills: All 3rd grade students must know how to tie their shoes. Students are allowed to bring a small, healthy snack daily. Students are also encouraged to bring a water bottle from home daily.

4th Grade

Below is a list of supplies that the 4th grade teachers are requesting to be brought in the

first week of school. All donations to your child’s education and classroom are greatly appreciated. This supply list may also be found on the school website, which can be accessed through the Edison Board of Education website.

  • 4 folders

  • 4 Composition Notebooks

  • 4 packages of post-it notes

  • 1 set of index cards

  • 2 packages of expo markers

  • 1 box of Ziploc bags (Boys bring in 1 gallon size and girls bring in 1 sandwich size) (For Mrs. Bell’s class only)

  • 1 pencil pouch with… (please no pencil boxes)

    • pencils (multiple pencils)

    • erasers

    • small pencil sharpener

    • 1 highlighter

    • 1 pen (blue or black)

    • 1 set of markers or colored pencils

    • 1 box of crayons

    • 1 pair of scissors

    • 1 package of glue sticks

  • Personal headphones/earbuds and mouse

  • Tissues (1 box)

  • Baby Wipes (1 pack)

Thank You!

Have a wonderful summer!

We can't wait until we see you in September!

A Couple of Quick Summer Reminders:

Math: It is crucial that all students entering 4th grade have their multiplication facts memorized. The 4th grade math curriculum assumes that all facts up to 12 have been mastered. It is expected that each child has learned their facts in 3rd grade and they have automaticity when reciting them. Please spend a little time this summer practicing your facts to ensure your success next year. A little effort now (5 minutes a day) will go a long way in 4th grade.

Reading: Don’t forget to read a little each day. Did you know that students can lose as much as 2 months of what they gained in 3rd grade if they don’t read over the summer? We know how hard you worked last year and we don’t want to let all that hard work go to waste. So take a trip to the library and borrow some wonderful books. While you are there ask the librarian if there are any summer reading programs you can sign up for.

Writing: Lastly, consider investing in a journal/diary. Record all your thoughts, memories, and adventures from the summer in it. Not only will it help you with your writing skills, but you’ll have a wonderful written account of your sensational summer to look back on for years to come. So run out to the dollar store and buy a summer journal and start writing.

Strategies for reading with your child…

  • Listen to your child read and help them sound out unknown words

  • Ask your child to make predictions
