Canyon Families

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday and enjoyed their time off. Even though it was a short month, there were still a lot of exciting things that took place at Canyon High School. Below is a summary of just some of the events that happened as well as a look ahead to the month of December.

CTE ENGINEERING PATHWAY

The Canyon High School Engineering Program is designed to provide students with a dynamic and comprehensive education in STEM, focusing on practical application and critical thinking. The curriculum is split into a first year course called Foundations of Engineering and a second year course called Advanced Engineering. These classes cater to all skill levels and all different areas of Engineering. Students have the opportunity to engage in exciting, hands-on projects, such as the cardboard chair challenge, where they apply principles of structural integrity to achieve impressive results like building a chair that supports over 400 lbs. Additionally, they gain essential technical skills by receiving instruction in industry-standard software, including Solidworks for 3D modeling and Revit for architectural design. If this sounds like a class your student would like to take next year, they can see the teacher of the class, Mrs. Nira Chandrasekar in room 316 for more information.

We'd love to chat with them, answer their questions, and help them prepare for the official application process this winter.

ACTIVITIES ACTIVITIES

ASB

ASB continued its tradition of creating a "Thankful Tree" for the month of November. Students were giving the opportunity to take a leaf and write something they are thankful for. ASB then took those leaves and created a tree on the windows of the counseling office in the quad. Based on the size of the tree, our students clearly had a lot to be thankful for.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS (MUN)

On November 8-9, Canyon attended BruinMUN, one of the top Model UN conferences for high school students in the country. During this event, over 2,000 students met on UCLA’s campus for a weekend of vigorous debate and collaboration. Club president Anish Kalluri led fellow classmates to successfully participate in the advanced committees, while novice participant Haadi Naqvi made his debut and gained some valuable experience in research and debate. If interested in getting involved, reach out to canyonmun1@gmail.com. We look forward to several more conferences this year.

FALL PLAY

Our Drama Department presented its fall play, "A Wrinkle in Time" for four nights right before Thanksgiving break. It was a fun play and all of our amazing actors and actresses did a GREAT JOB! A cast of 22 was highlighted by performances from Keira Low (Meg), Kaydience M-Hoang (Charles Wallace), Jacob Gallardo (Calvin) and Chloe Brinkley (Ms. Whatsit), Colette Tran (Mrs. Who) and Fawn Rinker (Mrs. Which). In addition to the cast, another talented group of students worked behind the scenes to build a great set and provide sound and lighting. All of which helped produce this great show!

GIRL'S CROSS COUNTRY

CONGRATULATIONS to freshman Robyn Langelier who finished 12th overall at the CIF Finals and earned All-CIF honors. She ran the 4th fastest time in Canyon history! Her 12th place finish qualified her for the State Meet that was held Saturday, November 29th in Fresno.

Overall as a team, the girls finished their season strong by running a phenomenal race at CIF Finals. 5 of 7 Girls ran their fastest times ever. They finished in 8th place (top 7 made State), so coming up just shy of a big season long goal, but a tremendous way to finish our year. Looking ahead to next year, they bring back our top 6 Girls and early projections are to be a top 3-5 team! CONGRATULATIONS to all of the girls on a GREAT SEASON!

It is that time of year again when we need your help! We need parents, students and staff to take the LCAP Survey (The Local Control Accountability Plan). This is a critical tool for gathering feedback from key stakeholders—students, families, and staff—on district priorities, programs, and services.

Responses help shape the district’s goals and actions to improve student outcomes and ensure accountability. To take the survey, scan the QR Code.
