Cougar Challenge Success — Over $52,000 Raised!
WOW, Hughes! Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our school community, this year’s Cougar Challenge raised over $52,000! We are incredibly grateful to our students, families, teachers, staff, and amazing volunteers who made this fundraiser such a tremendous success. A special thank you to Laura Coker and Rhem Galloway for their hard work and dedication in leading the charge!
These funds support our PTSA programs throughout the year and help provide an annual capital gift to Hughes Academy. We would love your input on future gifts that will make a lasting impact on our school!
A BIG Thank You to Our Friends of Hughes Sponsors!
Have you noticed the new banners along our carline? We are so excited to recognize the incredible local businesses and community partners who generously support Hughes Academy! These sponsorships help our PTSA provide meaningful programs, resources, and opportunities for our students, teachers, and staff throughout the year. We are so grateful for their investment in our school and for helping make Hughes such a special place!
Thank you for supporting our students, strengthening our school, and making a lasting difference in the Hughes community!
Help Hughes Academy Become a National PTA School of Excellence!
Hughes Academy PTSA is excited to participate in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which recognizes schools that build strong partnerships among families, teachers, and administrators to support student success.
We need your feedback! Please take a few minutes to complete our short, anonymous survey. Your input will help us strengthen our school community and work toward this national recognition!
Please complete the survey by October 31, 2026.

A great way to get involved! Hughes School Improvement Council (SIC)
If you're interested in being elected to next year’s School Improvement Council (SIC), please email our Principal, Mr. Adrian Mayes at amayes@greenville.k12.sc.us. SIC is an advisory council for school administration comprised of community members, parents, and teachers. Our SIC meets on the 1st Monday of each month from 2-3 pm starting in September. (BONUS: You can park in the first place in carpool line and come in to join the meeting!) We would love for you to be a part of the conversation that shapes our school community.
Yearbooks
Yearbooks are NOW for sale. Visit https://sites.google.com/greenvilleschools.us/yearbook-center?usp=sharing to stay up to date with important yearbook information. You can even submit photos for consideration to be added to the yearbook! Share your first-day-of-school pictures.
We have a couple of yearbooks that were not picked up over the summer. Students must pick up their unclaimed yearbooks in the front office by Tuesday, August 18th. After Wednesday, if you would like to purchase a 25-26 yearbook, extra books will be available for $30 in Ms. Edwards' classroom, C102 Tech Hall, from 8:30 to 8:50 am, while supplies last. We have a few books left. Please bring exact change or a check made out to Hughes Academy.
Parent Backpack
A backpack for parents account provides parents, guardians, or contacts with a central place to sign in to do the following:
- View their student's information including demographics, attendance, classes, grades, lunch balances, and test scores
- Apply or register their student to Special Focus schools and programs (Fine Arts Center, Career Centers, etc.)
- Receive alerts and notifications regarding their students
- View their student's school and contact information
- Manage parent and contact information for their students
To access Parent Backpack, go to https://parents.gcsbackpack.com and create an account. Please access directions by clicking on Creating a Parent Backpack Account.
Change of Information
The Student Emergency Information Form in the start of school student packet is sent directly to the Health Room.
No updates are made to our student database from this form.
To change your address, phone numbers or emergency contacts:
Use your Backpack account to update your contact information. You’ll need to scan a copy of a recent utility bill* or Change of Address Form. Please notify the school directly as you must provide two proofs of residency.
If your child will be a bus rider, you’ll also need to indicate that in Backpack or complete the Transportation Form, which is available on the district website.
*All address changes must include a current bill dated within past 30 days from either Duke Energy, Laurens Electric, Piedmont Natural Gas, Spectrum, or Greenville Water System. The bill must show the service address, not just the mailing address. If the bill is not in the parent’s name, please contact Guidance for additional information. Please bring paper copies to the Guidance Office or fax info to 355-6670. We cannot change your address without this documentation.
Questions? Please contact the Guidance Office at 355-6200. Thank you!
You can now pre-register your student for our 2026-2027 Extended Day Program. A new fee schedule will be available later in the Summer.
